‘Financially Hobbled for Life’: The Elite Master’s Degrees That Don’t Pay Off

There's an article from the WSJ that's been making the rounds, particularly among a lot of the screenwriters I follow on twitter, about how much debt people are accruing on Master's degree. It specifically points to Columbia and NYU as two examples of this: ‘Financially Hobbled for Life’: The...

Current CSUN Screenwriting MFA Student - AMA

What experience specifically? Writing-wise? I had previously completed a couple of full scripts, and had gone through UCLA Extension's Writer's Program. And I've worked industry adjacent jobs forever. But I will say, experience is all across the board. We have people in their early 20's who just...

Current CSUN Screenwriting MFA Student - AMA

Hi! Great questions. 1. This is a tough one. A big part of it was how the schools were dealing with Covid - NYU kept insisting that everything was going to be a-okay by September, and whenever I pushed back and asked for a contingency plan, they refused to give me any information. I also felt...

Current CSUN Screenwriting MFA Student - AMA

I just wrapped up my first semester at CSUN in their Screenwriting MFA program - ask me anything! I'm also in the unique position of seeing how they've dealt with Covid/classes via Zoom. I wanted to post this now as folks are in the midst of application season and I can't recommend CSUN's MFA...

CSUN Screenwriting MFA - Current Student AMA!

Hi! I'm an incoming student to CSUN's program. How are you liking it? And how insane is the workload? (Asking as someone who is attempting to maintain a full-time job while starting an MFA...haha)

2020 Decisions.... what has everyone decided?

Long, long story short, I ended up accepting CSUN, after talking to a professor, an alum, and a current student. I'm actually really excited about it. Still have not heard back from USC or UCLA.

COVID Poll: Are you attending or deferring?

I actually ended up accepting an offer from CSUN, which... last year me did NOT expect, haha! They've been GREAT about communicating what the fall will entail, and classes will be online. I was able to talk to a professor, an alum and a current student about it and they were all incredibly...

    UCLA MFA Screenwriting 2020

I'm with you, I haven't heard anything back yet. I find it frustrating because nowhere on the site does it say rolling admissions...? At least, not that I can find. At this point I've given up on them, to be honest.

Is It Possible to Be Denied After a Waitlist?

I feel like they might reach out to say that they are no longer accepting anyone from the waitlist (especially if they don't have a set end date for it? I know USC's waitlist is "open until August"), but it does seem odd in light of everything currently going on...?

    AFI Intellectual Property Agreement concerns

This is correct. You do own the IP, but note that AFI owning the rights to your thesis film means they are in charge of + responsible for distributing it.
