This is a tricky question for mainly one reason: They don't necessarily like it if you are too convinced about your future style. Professors at a film school know that you will change your taste, opinions and even your view of the world anyway over the next few years. Being too precise, like...
Not sure if I got your question right, but you can definitely apply for aid in your second year even if you didn't apply in your first year. It's really a shame you didn't do it. Have you tried talking to Kenny Wong?
Generally I would always say: Talk to the people. Columbia can help you a lot...
I agree with a lot of things you said and want to get this right: Both are great schools!
So if you get into one of them you are definitely lucky. You know, after all it's anyway on you what you make of the chance offered by these schools. No film school can guarantee contacts or success with...
For most schools (if not all of them) you have to fill out a form if you want to apply for scholarships. Then they check how many people applied for financial aid and try to split what they have as even as possible. In case of Columbia: If you apply for Financial Aid, you'll almost automatically...
Don't forget, if you apply for financial aid during your application process, most MFA programs will offer you a scholarship between 7.500$ and 15.000$ too.
That surprises me, to be honest. I've never met a single student here who would have preferred to get into UCLA instead. Sure, it's about 10k cheaper per year, but the education is totally different.
If you compare their equipment and sound stages, UCLA will win. And probably every other big...
The scholarship you got for the first year will at least be the same in the second year. You might have to work in service positions though to maintain that right. Good thing is: Most of these positions are pretty awesome and people would love to do them anyway.
They will send you the acceptance package by mail. But if you call them (I think Kenny Wong) and ask nicely, they will also email you the whole thing as pdf.
Goes much faster.
I guess this is a hard one since nobody has received their MFA from both NYU and Columbia. I think it's definitely true that Columbia has a stronger storytelling focus whereas NYU has better technical equipment. I have to disagree though with NYU's reputation. I was in the same situation as you...
Well, I was in Switzerland when they called me from NY. There's always a way. And if I remember it correctly I got the email like 30 minutes before I got the call. If they want you they will definitely make sure they'll reach you.
@Qian I was an international applicant as well but still they called me. You will probably get both, a call and an email.
Seems like this year they accept CP applicants earlier than Screenwriters / Directors.
I don't want to break anybody's heart but since Friday is the last day before Spring...
Do you mean me?
Well, I haven't heard about a single person in the program that wasn't interviewed (again, I'm a student in the first year).
They interview around 150 people and accept 72. If these 72 don't take the offer, they'll ask other people they interviewed. Of course, if these 78 people...
