hey guys, i'm a current (first-year) UT screenwriting student... this place is, well... wicked cool. how's that for articulate, lol.

1. structure is pretty simple. there's a bunch of writing classes, and you write a lot. i'm not trying to be smug or flip, but that's really what it boils down to. if you want to mix production with your writing, this probably isnt the place for you; the production students and screenwriting...
yeah, the in UT MFA-screenwriting program (which i'm in right now, so i *am* more than a little biased, lol) you write 3 feature scripts and 2 TV scripts, a spec & an original pilot.
Well, i´ve got a little problem with this post. i dont go to chapman, i dont really care one way or another about chapman, but the wording of this little paragraph in particular bothers me.

UT Austin is definitely one of the top programs in the country. do yourself a favor and apply. of course, as a longhorn presently, i might be a little biased ... hehehe.
@Simon: I was a double major in journalism/history for undergrad. i got in to a few top-notch programs (not bragging, just giving context.) i don't think your undergrad background matters THAT much -- i think the quality of your portfolio is the biggest thing by far.
i think that's true.
also, i'm a musician as well as a writer, and austin, well ... yeah, it really IS the live music capital of the world. so that has a certain appeal, too.

i'm a screenwriting acceptee. what sold me over Columbia, Chapman, LMU and others was the volume of writing we do, both feature scripts and TV scripts. also, the tiny class size (7) really appealed to me.
I was waitlisted at USC.
