Waitlisted (w/o Interview) MFA in Creative Writing & Writing for the Performing Arts - Fall 2026

Nothing new. Started early enough because apart from Northwestern, this requires more statements than other schools. Surprised to get an email notifying me that I’m on the waitlist. Hoping for the best at this point.

Admitted (After Interview) FSU Motion Picture Arts - Writing MFA - Fall 2026

Interestingly challenging process because you surely have to write new materials for the sake of the application. Had a virtual interview being an international applicant. Others had to do in-person.

Admitted (w/o Interview) Missouri State - Dramatic Writing - Fall 2025

Applied through GradCas. A 10-page writing sample is required, which could be a screenplay, stage play or prose. I submitted a screenplay. They offer a graduate assistantship that covers tuition and living expense, which I missed because I submitted my application way passed the priority deadline.

    NFTS Screenwriting MFA 2027

Hey guys, I’m applying for screenwriting Master’s programmes for 2026/2027 - and NFTS is the one I’m desperate to get into. Anyone else looking to apply, and does anyone have any tips, or an idea of the timeline? I’ve got an interview at LCC on Monday, which I’m very happy about because it’s my...

Denied (w/o Interview) USC MFA Writing for Screen & Television

Pretty straightforward application. USC has pretty lame admin though, slightly disorganised and take ages to reply to emails. Other than that, I enjoyed the application

Applied UCR Creative Writing and Writing for the Performing Arts - Fall 2025

Apart from Northwestern, it's the only school that requires so many essays. Though a bit stressful writing multiple essays for each school, it's quite an insightful experience. The prompts make it easier to tell your story, answering their questions in the process.

Denied (w/o Interview) Writing for the Screen and Stage

My second time applying to Northwestern's MFA in writing for the Screen and Stage program. I submitted an Academic Statement, a Writer's Statement and a Personal Statement having to do with diversity, equity and inclusion. I also submitted a 10-page screenplay. Overall it wasn't as stressful...

Stony Brook University / Killer Film's MFA program- A screenwriter's perspective

Alternate title: Will I drop out of film school? I’m nine weeks into my first year at Stony Brook’s MFA in Film program. I’m taking 5 classes (2 writing, one directing, one “film tools”, one masterclass with Christine Vachon) as well as an internship doing coverage for Flynn Picture Co...

Attending (Admitted After Interview) Stony Brook University - Manhattan Fall 2024

I spent a few weeks crafting my SOP at my local cafe and got some feedback from friends (including one who went to grad school at AFI). I was proud of it. They also require a video which I saved for last and the process was complicated by a health issue I had. My video was not my best work. They...

Denied (w/o Interview) NYU Tisch Dramatic Writing MFA - 24'-26'

The application process is simple and straightforward. No wonder NYU is so competitive. There is so little space to prove yourself to the admissions committee, so make sure you are utilizing the space in your application materials wisely. It's really the strength of your writing sample and...

Denied (w/o Interview) USC - Writing for Screen & Television

This program does not interview applicants. USC sends out rejection letters just a few days after acceptance ones (I never got an email with a notification, I just went and checked my yousc portal).

Admitted (w/o Interview) USC Writing for Screen and Television MFA

Admitted on the second try! This forum has helped me immensely with general questions on the process, advice from other applicants and previous accepted members and in building a sense of camaraderie throughout the admissions cycle.

Admitted but Not Attending (w/o Interview) Emerson - Writing for Film and Television

The application was simple, I applied for the priority deadline so I'd have the best shot at getting as much funding as possible. The essay requirements and the writing sample weren't strenuous at all, I was able to use the same sample I'd used in another application. The thing I most...

Stonybrook MFA in TV Writing Question

Does anyone know about Stonybrook's MFA in TV Writing program? Just, generally speaking...? More specifically, to what degree do the women at Killer Films participate in the writers' educations and career advancement? There are reviews on this site, but, to be blunt, they read like they were...

    Screenwriting Undergrad programs

Hey guys! Now that we have sent our applications, it's a pretty nerve wracking time. I thought of opening this thread so we could all fret together, if that makes any sense. Do you know till when they send all the decisions?
