The process was tough for me personally as I never anticipated going back to university. I found sending a letter of continued intent to be helpful when I was waitlisted. I think it's important to keep trying if it's truly what you want.
Process was pretty straight forward. Had a great time at the interview - everyone was really nice, it was very conversational. Currently waiting on scholarship offer.
First time applying!
I am still a senior in college, and will be graduating in May 2023, so I'm super excited that I got on the waitlist w/ guaranteed admission from the first try.
I major in Film Studies and Visual Arts, so I do have some experience making films (mostly...
So far it's been pretty straightforward. I applied in November, and received a request for interview which happened via zoom. I've been waitlisted since then, but generally there haven't been any stumbling blocks.
I've done it three times now so I was pretty familiar with the process. It was pretty standard, less work than other schools for sure(9 questions + 1 video introduction). The video was new this year, but I was authentic as I could be. Every time I got rejected, I found the next best option so I...
This was for sure my top film school choice, and I really didn't think I had the slightest chance of getting in. USC is definitely my dream school, so I figured I would just give it a shot. The application was pretty fun to create and I think painted a pretty cohesive image of my overall...
This is my first time applying. I go to the Rhode Island School of Design for filmmaking. I was interviewed by Barnet Kellman, who said that he personally would love to see me there at SCA but it was up to the admissions committee. I also applied to UCLA, Columbia, NYU, and AFI, but was not...
First time applying to USC SCA/graduate programs in general. Grateful to have made it so far on my first attempt.
I appreciated how straightforward the application was. It made it all so easy to understand and obtain the required material. Not as demanding as other applications.
Very difficult and time consuming to complete the application but ultimately worth it! The hardest part was the media sample, as I wanted to not only make a film for the application, but also make something viable for film festivals. Fortunately this turned out to be the right decision.
In general, it's pretty ok. If you planned, you can do it all! don't worry. But for my, speaking as someone with anxiety, it's being pretty stressful. I worry if what I did is not good enough and I spend the whole day checking my email to see if I get a interview.

So far, I have only received interview from AFI producing program, The interview went very well! I haven't received the interview from USC ( film production--producer ) yet......😭 . But I've heard of any cases where they were admitted without interview! But I'm international student( China), I...
Hey folks! Thought to create a thread for Peter Stark for this year as interview notifications are expected to be sent within the next 2-3 weeks.
This is my second year applying, I was waitlisted last year. Good luck to everyone in this cycle!
The application goes well. The short film I submitted was my first complete narrative film, I used to make scenery and travel video clips which they are not fitting the feature of storytelling. Due to the lack of experience, the film was not perfectly fit my original idea but overall it was good...
The application process has been pretty hectic, it is demanding and requires vulnerability for it to stand a chance. I was somewhat paranoid so editing and re-editing led to the submission by the very end of the deadline. I am satisfied with my application though because I know I did it with a...
Hi! I'm enrolling at USC (MFA in Film and TV Prod.) in Spring 2023, and the department has issued a deadline of Jan 3rd to register for classes in my assignment sheet, it says I lose my spot in the program if I don't. International students can't register till they've arrived in the US and...
I started preparing the materials from last year, so I finished most of them a few months before the deadline. I don't know how well it is, but I did my best.
First time applying.
So.many.essays! Come on, USC! Get it together!
.....They were fun to write, though, even if they took some time. Excited to hear back!
And excited to get through the applications for other schools. Whew!
Hi everyone, I'm applying to the USC MFA at SCA and was struggling a bit with the collaborative question. I'm not entirely sure what type of lesson do they mean - something more personal or more technical/about the process? I'd wager its a mixture of both but if there is anyone who answered this...
