Hi everone, this is a post to discuss how to deal with the required length of the short films which most MFA programs require one in the portfolio.
I have bumped into a problem that I cannot cut my short film from 10-min down to 5-min without seriously lowering the quality of the film. There is...
Hello incoming MFA Production/Directing 2022
I am a recently graduated MFA production/directing student at UCLA TFT. Our school probably hasn’t given you much info since you got accepted. I come with a simple warning. DONT COME. It is not worth it.
UCLA is not what you expect. Scandal after...
Hello everyone,
So, I am thinking of applying for the MFA in Directing at EICAR, Paris. Having visited their website and IG page, it seems like a good school.
However, I have read a lot of bad reviews as well as some good ones about the school. I even watched a video documented by an...
UCLA has the easier portfolio I think. But it was kind of hard trying to give different content to personal statement and statements of purpose. I've actually sort of forgotten about UCLA (and forgot that I wanted to tell them to take me off the waitlist) but it came...
The application was manageable.
I spent as much time on my personal statement and statement of purpose as I did on the feature length script. I tried to provide new information about myself and my writing style in each piece (so as not to bore my readers).
I interviewed February 7th. The...
Application process went pretty well. I found out about this school last minute and decided to apply to it too and I'm glad I did since I have heard a lot of great things about the school. Most of the materials required were similar to other applications as well. The only things I had to do...
First time applying. I submitted the best 10 continuous minutes of a 16 mins short film that I made, and the 5 minute "shift in perspective" exercise. Did not get an interview, but was not surprised as my practical experiences is not extensive.
LMU extended their deadline from Nov 15 to Dec 15 this year, which was a blessing glory glory hallelujah. Right now I'm in the waiting period, which is nerve-wracking. I have really enjoyed my interactions with LMU staff, faculty, etc thus far!
Application deadline crept up on me faster than I expected and I found myself scrambling to put together my materials right before submitting. In hindsight, I would have managed my time better and finessed my personal statement a little more, but here we are.
One of my sample films was much stronger than the other, but I'm hoping my personal statement makes up the difference. Currently in the waiting period, so the process is pretty nerve-racking right now!
This application was fun and I appreciated the ability to include more samples of work. The academic paper was an interesting component and UT Austin is the only school I applied to that required that in their portfolio.
First time applying. I submitted my 2 short films (15 mins and 5 mins - 20 mins total) as my visual sample. I was given a nice sized fellowship, making the program almost free for me to attending as an out of state applicant. The admission letter mentioned that they offer admission to 10-12...
First time applying, international student, 4 years working experience. Application was smooth, if expensive. Getting IELTS scores synced was nerve-wracking and I ended up emailing to make sure they were synced.
I got in! I'd love to hear people's thoughts on the program. It's becoming a top contender for me, but I'm still waiting to hear back from USC, NYU, and Chapman.
I just got the acceptance email from UGA this morning! Did anyone else on here get in? What are your feeling about the school if you did? I'm curious if anyone on these forums applied because I haven't seen it mentioned in any threads this year.
The application required the most work compared to the other schools. I enjoyed doing the writing, but felt a bit nervous since I had never written an extensive artist statement.
It was a bit of a rush because the deadline was not clear and the website also opened a few days after its planned opening. As an international student, it was difficult to have clear guidelines for things that are not usual to do for our applications.
The process was easy and clear. There was an Info webinar in which you can ask every question about the application.
The interview notification was quite rushed (They ask me if I can talk on 1/6 but they email me just a day before that) However, the interview was smooth. They asked questions...
Is anyone else applying to this program this year? Emerson is pretty high on almost every film school ranking but I haven't been able to find too much information about their MFA in Film and TV writing MFA outside of what's on their site and the few threads I've seen on here. The curriculum...
