App process went well, I definitely scurried to get things done. Thinking retrospectively, I definitely would have taken more time to work on a more cohesive visual sample for the program. I think my essays were very strong and I had a decent portfolio and established body of work, but my...
Hi guys
Regarding the MFA programs at NYU and Feirstein--I'm an international student and I was wondering if there are people here who went to these schools and programs and can give advice about which is better/ pros and cons?
I know NYU is in high demand but their tuition is double that of...
I started the application few weeks ago but took time to get all my materials in place. You have to upload your portfolio and SoP on slideroom along with a few questions. The portfolio has a 10 min limit which was kind of a challenge. You have to submit the LORs yourself.
I submitted my USC application through SlideRoom, wrote a personal statement, and chose a dialogue scene as my writing sample. My portfolio listed my creative projects, and I completed a collaboration question, a video introduction, and a media sample. After my interview on January 19th, I...
Smooth, and fairly straightforward when compared to other applications. The application doesn't require as much creative labor as some other graduate school applications. The interview was straightforward, and although it was short, I didn't feel caught off guard, but they panel seemed genuinely...
Lots of written materials, especially since I didn't have an undergrad writing sample to include. But the application process was a rewarding experience of reflection.
Their application portal is a little confusing because you have to submit your SoP and portfolio separately on slideroom. The main portal does not update whether they have received the slideroom docs. Like most Canadian universities, they ask for a research/thesis proposal where we have to give...
This was a more robust application. You also have the option to edit your portfolio and materials after you've submitted the application. They asked for a Personal statement and goals statement separately. They also asked us to write a 2-3 min screenplay with exterior location only and no...
There are different sections to upload your documents and other information. You can pay the application fee and continue adding materials later. You can also edit your submission later. They have a system of checking off all the boxes and once all steps including LORs are complete you would...
This was my first application to a US school. The portal gives an option to add newer versions of your docs but once in the system, they can't be deleted. They asked a few questions in supplementary forms apart from the documents required, about your personal experiences
My expectations are super open, as I am both a first-time applicant and a novice filmmaker! It was fun to work on the various components of this application. I'm grateful to be learning more about this process itself, as I may likely have a few more attempts ahead of me :)
The first round is finished! It was a lot of fun, but I had a little anxiety from my last recommender. Luckily, she came through. I felt I wrote my essay too pretentiously so I hope the interview process can really show my character!
I didn’t feel very confident in this application, but by this point I had already done five other applications and was feeling a bit burned out. I struggled the most with my dramatic writing sample as I couldn’t quite decide which screenplay to submit.
I thought the application was fairly easy compared to other schools since they don’t require many materials. However that did make me worried about how well my ability and style came across.
Of all the schools I applied to, I think I enjoyed this application the most. The prompts for the creative materials offered a lot of flexibility and options which I liked. Also, writing a short story was nice since I have some experience in creative writing.
I thought the process was pretty straight forward and required less materials than other schools I’d applied to. Two essays, resume, and a short film treatment that I enjoyed writing. I do wish that they allowed you to submit a short film with your materials.
***Something helpful that I found...
Hey guys!
So I received an interview email for the MFA in Cinema and Television Directing program at Columbia College Chicago and I was wondering if anyone could help me with what questions they usually ask in the interview. Any tips and suggestions would help too. Thanks!
So far so good! It basically took me a year to get all my essays polished with dozens of rewrites. Managed to get everything good about a week before the due date so had a little room for error. My references cut it close, but after a little nudging they also got their references in on time as...
It was very, very nerve-wracking. I just wrote my 5-page screenplay tonight. I mulled over the personal statement way too much. I feel fairly confident about my 20-page screenplay sample, even though it's the first 20 pages of a feature. I'm hoping it goes well, but I'm trying not to get my...
