I had to do quite a bit of work with the treatment on top of the regular submission documents. The treatment had to be formatted very specifically with a budget sheet also attached. Did not hear anything up until they sent me their decision.
The application process went smoothly, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear back from the program so quickly. Since I was working full-time while preparing my application materials, it was a stressful period, but I’m glad I was able to complete everything successfully.

Applied to both UT Austin's Michener Center for Writers Writing MFA (screenwriting and fiction emphasis) and UT's separate Screenwriting MFA and submitted the same sample (feature screenplay) for both. Only difference in the process was that Michener didn't ask for a resume.
Hey all! Wondering if anyone else submitted to BlueCat this round? It’s one of the few screenwriting comps I think there is real value in. I’ve only submitted once a few years ago and was definitely not ready. I was lucky enough to be a quarterfinalist this year. Hopefully I can make it to the...
I enjoyed the process and felt like my writing skills improved. Considering my lack of background or professional experience in film, I made sure each creative sample was as strong as I could make them. I surprisingly spent the most time on the dialogue scene. Struggled with it in the beginning...
It's gone really well! The application was a bit different compared to last year's (they've changed up the dramatic story) and I enjoyed writing everything.
This is my second time applying - I was accepted last year (and was over the moon!) and accepted my place, but was unable to attend due to...
The application process for this was short for me. I was rejected without an interview of any sort. The materials submitted were conducive to what other applications ask for.
I was surprised they only wanted to see 20/30 pages of a feature, as it didn't seem like enough to make a full judgement, but I guess it helps people with less experience. The PS and transformational moment were pretty standard.
I liked that the prompt didn't have to be a script. I wrote a...
I live in Chicago, so when I heard that Northwestern's program is tuition-free I figured I might as well apply! The application process was pretty straightforward - honestly the most difficult part for me was harassing my three references to submit their letters on time hahah. I used the first...
I've really enjoyed myself! It inspired me to write and gave me the motivation to finish my screenplay! I submitted a half an hour pilot in US format. I did find it really hard writing the statement of purpose with such a small amount of words but I was really happy with it in the end after...
Writing the portfolio was fun! It was great to be able to sit down with a prompt and be as creative as possible and I really loved the pitch concept. For my application, I also concentrated on writing and directing.
Hey all! Did anyone else apply to FSU's College of Motion Picture Arts for Writing or maybe another discipline? The deadline is tomorrow! I applied for the first time and am pretty excited about it because I already live in Florida.
Would love to chat with other applicants if you're out there!
It’s been nice! I felt like my interviewers were a bit colder than last year and I felt like they didn’t like all my answers. I guess I have a lot more anxiety than I did last year.
First time applying and got rejected without an interview. I asked for some feedback and they didn't say anything very specific. They said there was a high number of applications this year and that they can only admit a maximum of 8 students per year.
It's been pretty good! I've enjoyed working on the creative prompts, though it is daunting. I am excited to be applying and just taking the plunge. I have been out of undergrad for a few years now and don't feel like I have a ton to show for it, but I'm trying not to think about that too much...
This was my third application completed so far and it was by far my favorite. NYU's directions were simple and straightforward, and I had fun writing the requested pieces. I adore NYU's program (and location, since I already live in and love NYC), so I'm really crossing my fingers for this one!
This one was tricky, but I'm really happy with what I came up with. Not sure if the scene prompt was the kind of thing they were looking for, but I really enjoyed writing it.
