Apart from getting into AFI (Editing), I have gotten into Loyola Marymount University too. It's a 3-year Film and TV Production MFA course, with an emphasis on Editing.
Have you heard anything about this? And how is its reputation in the industry?
One of the major reasons I am considering this...
Going well! I found it fairly freeing and creativity inducing. Already had a bit of my longer sample, but the five page sample allowed me to try something new and fun and think of ways others wouldn't write it.
First time applying. I submitted the best 10 continuous minutes of a 16 mins short film that I made, and the 5 minute "shift in perspective" exercise. Did not get an interview, but was not surprised as my practical experiences is not extensive.
That was great. I was afraid that my supplements weren't that competitive since my city was under lock down for a couple of months before I submitted the application.
The interview went very smoothly and straightforward. They first asked why I wanted to study production design and what's my understanding of it. After that, we also discussed a bit about my portfolio and some recent tv/film. The interview was pretty much like a chat and not as intense as I...
I got the interview. I couldn't believe that. However, I think I was too nervous in the process so maybe they reckon that I am not ready yet, for the high-pressure ambience. I don't know. I was so tired to prepare for the "a shift in perspective" film. But I think I did a good(not bad) job. They...
Second time applying after not getting an interview last year. My interview this year was very conversational and laid back, but only lasted 20 minutes. We talked about my application materials, but I wasn't asked to pitch anything on the spot.
This was the scariest school to apply to because I've heard a lot about AFI and how rigorous and difficult it is to get into. But the conservatory system is exciting and appealing to me- specially the focus on collaboration.
It has been pretty good so far. Interview wasn't as stressful as anticipated. Again, just a waiting game now. I don't really know what to write to fill up 150 characters so this nonsense will do. :D
AFI has been a smoother process. I really liked their webinar, found it to be more helpful than other schools. They've also been more clearer and transparent in the process and I feel like they don't leave you hanging for a long time.
I took the duolinguo test and had some problems putting it...
Application process went smoothly. Submitted PDF of photographs, narrative statement, 10-60 Restriction prompt film, and other portfolio materials. Interview was over Zoom on Jan 31st.
I felt the application process was very straightforward and easy to complete. I submitted the application a day before the deadline to make sure my letters of rec had enough time to complete their letters. I heard back from the admissions requesting an interview for Jan 26th.
Nervous but excited! It's been a very intense process with a lot of work but I've been getting interviews so I feel like it's payed off.
I made multiple short films and wrote a ton for my application. I'm hoping to hear about other people's experiences by getting more involved on here.
Really appreciated the 20 page requirement for this particular school. I think having that limited amount of room to work with not only made my sample stronger, but it also saved me time.
Hey all. I've applied for AFI Cinematography 2022. Thankfully, they have extended the deadline by Jan 4th.
Got views for my submitted work links and god willing would I make it for an interview. Haven't seen anyone discussing here about Cinematography from AFI fall 2022. Just curious to check...
Jumped on writing the five minute short pretty quickly, and got everything submitted by early October. The most frustrating part was the narrative statement and having to revise it over and over again.
It has been really smooth. They were really kind and helpful. Everything was very clear.
I was finishing a production during the application time so it was a little crazy on my end, but it ended up very good and on time.
I asked over 15 friends and family members to read my application and that...
Application process went as smoothly as it could. Having applied once previously, I was familiar with the expectations and how long it would take me to accomplish the requirements.
For the directing track, I submitted a short film that I recently made, as well as the Topic short film.
2nd time applying
I was admitted last year but didn't attend.
Honestly, I think I'm mostly doing this for fun because the tuition costs are so out of my reach, since I bearly have enough savings to cover living costs in LA.
For the most part, I'm romanticising the idea of going to grad school to...
Application process was not difficult the essay questions were a bit time consuming but overall just glad to have gotten it in. Best of luck to all who applied to their programs!
