First time applying. Generic enough, in some ways, that I was able to use application materials I used for other schools. Yay! How considerate of them.
Starting this thread for community and questions as we play the waiting game. There doesn't seem to be many of us Chapman folks so this thread is for applicants to all of the MFA programs in the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts. I think someone did create one specifically for applicants to...
First time applying. I actually had technical issues with the application which was super stressful. One of my recommendations disappeared from my account the day before I wanted to submit and so I had to panic email my recommender and ask them to resubmit which thankfully they did but would...
Wishing everyone luck as we head into the final weeks approaching the deadline! Creating this thread for community/questions/moral support as we move forward with our applications and interview processes!
Cheyton Jain (@jainismyname) got his first film degree at San Francisco State University School of Cinema. His goal: pursue his love for arts and culture. After earning his Bachelor of Arts in Cinema, he moved back to his home city of Los Angeles and spent a few years scooping ice cream and...
Hi all, I've seen some discussion about USC v. Chapman for Master's but not undergrad. I'm fortunate to have been accepted to both for film production undergrad. Here's my sense of the pros and cons, but I could really use some reality checks from you all. I've received merit from both, so cost...
Hey guys, I'm trying to decide between Chapman or BU for the Screenwriting MFA and I would love to hear some thoughts about it. I'm trying to do some research here. Thank you!!
Really good. I didn't receive anything after I submitted the application, including the interview. The congrats from Chapman just happening on 2022-03-07.
Since I am an alumni, I wasn’t worried. During the interview they asked me about why I wished to return when I could go anywhere else. I told them about Chapman’s strengths and how it is the most versatile of all film schools I’ve applied to because of the resources available to the students...
Chapman's application requirements were one of the most elaborate out of the bunch. Initially, I felt overwhelmed by the sheer volume of elements required for the application, but by the end, I felt Chapman's application really encouraged me to challenge my creativity and showcase the kind of...
It was quite smooth. Turned in my application the day before the due date. The interview made me a little nervous but they were quite nice. Decision expected mid-march
Very smooth application process. I spent most of my time working on my creative submission, my creative portfolio list, and my statement of intent. I did the whole thing in about four sessions over the course of a couple weeks.
When I was researching schools, I initially did not think applying to Chapman was an option for me. Not much information about financial aid is detailed on their website, scarce information about the application process, and no specific references to alumni success after graduation (just a list...
It's my first time applying and I thought it was weird that I received an interview invitation since they don't usually do interviews with Screenwriting applicants. However, after talking to Chapman I learned that they started interviewing this year! Everything was fine until now, everyone from...
It's been good! I found the Chapman application stressed me out a bit more than the others because there were no script samples accepted - only a prose piece and personal essays. However, I am super excited to have an interview and show them more about myself. Fingers crossed!
The Chapman application was pretty easy, it only required two brief writing samples as opposed to some schools that require full pilots. Because the writing samples were so small, I made sure that they were really polished.
I think my Transformational moment essay is one of the best essays I have had to write for an application thus far! Got everything submitted on time! Now the waiting begins.
When you schedule your interview they also give you an option to sign up for either a virtual or in-person "Interviewing...
Very straightforward process. Their application is very easy to follow. I'm just a bit anxious about the portfolio because I'm not sure what they were looking for exactly. I tried including a bit of everything!
