First time applying to a competitive film program like SCA. I studied film for two years at a four year public university and got a lot of film experience (mostly through personal projects) but also worked on thesis films. I was really surprised to get into SCA after being rejected from LMU's...
The application process has been pretty smooth! The day after I started my application, I got a call from the school just to check in and see if I had any questions about the application process and to let me know about their open days (shoutout to Lucy who called me - she was so sweet!). I...
Hi there! I haven't seen any threads about people applying for Directing Documentary at NFTS next year, so I thought I'd start one. Submitted my application on May 7th, now I'm anxiously awaiting a response. Is there anyone else out there? 😊
Going through the application, I really had to dig deep and express my passion for documentary filmmaking. With my BFA in Studio Arts and experiences from undergrad, I expressed my desire to bring powerful stories to light.
Lots of written materials, especially since I didn't have an undergrad writing sample to include. But the application process was a rewarding experience of reflection.
Northwestern is my top choice, so I focused most of my efforts on this application. I submitted early, though I am still waiting for one letter of recommendation.
I submitted before the deadline, though I ran out of time to write the supplemental essay, so I used a paper from a film theory class. Not quite related to documentary.
The application process was a bit lengthy but effortless. As it asks basic SOP and portfolio. I generally love talking about my work so writing for this application was a joyful process. It made me know more about where I see myself in the long run in the documentary scene.
The application was easy. We had to submit statement of purpose and a study proposal for a documentary. I feel it was among the easiest applications. The college looks really nice especially for people who want to be in a small community and not a big university which can sometimes be...
I had applied for London College of Communication which falls under University of Arts London for Masters in Documentary.
The application was easy. We had to write a statement of purpose, a video task introducing ourself and our work and a study proposal for a documentary. I enjoyed the process...
Hello folks,
I am Nidhi Kamath a documentary filmmaker from India. I have been making short films on documentary genre since last 9 years. Our team has won at film festivals etc. But I want to get an international exposure and study more. I want to do an MFA in documentary media. I had applied...
Hi Everyone!
Looking through this forum has been really helpful. Although I haven’t heard back from Emerson, Calarts (interviewed) and Columbia (interviewed), I am hoping to understand more about Emerson. Can anyone speak to one or more of this long-winded list?:
1. Where can I find more...
Second time applying. Last year submitted a thesis documentary but didn't receive an interview or admission. This year submitted a new film that has been screened at major film festivals.
This application was stange because it does not contain a media submission. Beyond that it was the first I submitted so I do cringe a little looking back at the way I structured my answers. I liked that the materials were specific to the goals we are meant to carry out in the program.
