I just got my letter that I was placed on the waitlist for USC Writing for Film and Television for Fall 2022. Should I send an email to graduate admissions notifying them of my commitment/continued interest of enrolling at the school? Cant find much online on if they are open to receiving...
Application deadline crept up on me faster than I expected and I found myself scrambling to put together my materials right before submitting. In hindsight, I would have managed my time better and finessed my personal statement a little more, but here we are.
My only advice is to be genuine. Focus on what makes you YOU, and make that the focus of your application. Don't make you loving film the focus of your entire application.
Everybody that applies to an MFA for film production loves film (I would think), but there is only one you applying. Corny...
First time applying, international student, 4 years working experience. Application was smooth, if expensive. Getting IELTS scores synced was nerve-wracking and I ended up emailing to make sure they were synced.
SCA is announcing "...the Moustapha and Malek Akkad Student Support Fund, which will provide financial aid to international students studying at the School. The first recipient is Kay Zhang, an MFA student from China who is studying directing and producing. Zhang is currently working on her...
By far one of the most demanding applications I submitted this year in terms of the number of materials required. Combined with the earliest application deadline out of the seven programs I applied for this year, this was going to be a gauntlet of an application. The good thing is that once I...
It was interesting, however as an international student they did not make it easy for me to send documents that are not the norm to send in my country. They also never reply to calls and I had issues with them receiving my test scores.
Hello everyone!
I was recently waitlisted by USC (Cinema and Media Studies MA).
How long do you think I have to wait until I receive my decision? Is it true that I might not hear back from them until April?
I’ve been waitlisted since January 21st and the wait has been killing me 😭
Also, how...
The application for USC was the most extensive out of all the schools I applied to this cycle (USC, UCLA, AFI, and UT) with the most work required. I really appreciated this though, because, to me, that meant that they really cared about who they were admitting. They were also the most helpful...
I feel so nervous. I have only been requested to interview for AFI so far. I'm still waiting to hear back from USC (Stark and Production as a Producer) and Columbia.
Anyone else start interviews for these schools?
Stressful! DUH. I applied to UCLA, USC, AFI, and Cal Arts. Making the materials was mostly fun but I had an animation project literally fall apart without time to correct so I had to create a new concept close to the deadline. That wasn't the worst part, the worst part was watching my essays...

Remote learning for a week and boosters required:
Given the current spread of the Omicron variant of COVID, many of you have questions about USC’s plans for return in January and we wanted to provide specifics as soon as possible.
For students, our residence halls and housing will open as...
The essays have a very strict word limit so I recommend getting an editor to help you refine what you'd like to say after doing the first few passes yourself. I also designed a resume/biography document that somewhat encompasses everything I might want to say about myself and showcasing my...
I liked how it asked to add more to the resume than you typically would include. It was a lot of short essay questions with varying character limits rather than one or two longer essays.
I was emailed about interviewing on February 1, 2022, but they do not give you options to choose from-- they...
It's been alright! I struggled with what to submit for the media sample since it had to be five minutes or less. I kind of wish I had just made a short film specifically for submission because I'm not sure if what I submitted had enough of a story to it or was compelling enough. It was more of...
I'm applying to the animation and digital arts major. I feel a bit weary about the middle but any type of advice is greatly appreciated. Let me know, thanks.
When my dad told me a story about his mother—a woman who took grand steps to further the lives of her children, grandchildren, and...
Loved this application. Felt there were a lot of opportunities to show off unique voice and style. Excited to hear back. Wishing everyone lots of luck!
This application was pretty tough for me, just because it required so much info and writing, which made completing it time-intensive. I'm currently staying with my parents to help out after an unexpected family death, on top of working full-time, so I wasn't able to dedicate as much time to the...
