Applied. Interviewed. Felt okay about the interview. Just got in today! I'm 2/2 applied to ucla and afi only and got into both... the programs are so different, and very different priced tuition, it is going to be such a hard choice...
- will update this soon -
It required good amount od documents and supporting materials. I started my application 2.5 weeks before the deadline and I was still filling out some documents on the deadline. I was also traveling while I did my application so I was quite worried about my application...
Chapman's application was a lot of fun. I thought the personal essay, where you can't show your face felt really unique from other application materials. Was super excited to get an interview and thought the interviewer was really kind and approachable. I left the interview more excited about...
Made some changes to my personal statement from last semester applying to USC, and thrilled to have gotten an interview. The interview felt like it went well, but was short, around 15-20 minutes. The interviewer was very kind and quickly dispelled any anxiety I brought with me into the interview.
The application process was fine, was able to repurpose a few essays from my USC application. The emphasis on written work/ lack of a video requirement was surprising. They got back to me faster than expected from the previous notification dates listed here.
Lighter application compared to other directing/film production programs. Had a hiccup about my application fee weaver and communications from them were timely and accommodating. Interview had friendly atmosphere, and they asked more general questions. Saw/accessed my decision letter before...
The online application was pretty straightforward - just a CV and a few questions, just waiting to hear back now and hoping I can maybe get an interview
Hello all! I just submitted my application for Directing Fiction starting in 2027! Nervous, and a helluva long wait ahead, but wanted to get a conversation going. Has anybody else applied or is planning on applying? Any advice? How long does the application process tend to take?
NFTS is a...
Since USC's personal statement is different (and can be more personal) than other universities, I only applied here, unlike the previous cycle. I approached the personal statement as if it were an unsent letter to my father, and used a lot of "you". I didn't address the admission committee at...
To say I'm shocked to be waitlisted would be an understatement. After those first waves of acceptances and waitlists came out, I was convinced I was getting rejected. Then I finally got an email, saw the word waitlist, and freaked out! So, to anyone stressing that they haven't heard back at the...
The process has been very welcoming, and I really enjoyed attending an in-person interview day and having the time and attention given to us (the interviewees) to show us around and make us feel wanted.
The application took a long time despite not requiring as much in quantity as other schools like USC and CalArts. Also found their communication to be clear and concise and the interviews to be personal.
I know we’re all in the same position and trying to piece together whatever information we can, but I’m hoping to sanity-check timelines.
If I haven’t received an interview notification yet from AFI Directing (MFA) or NYU Grad Film (MFA), is it reasonable to assume it’s unlikely at this point...
chapman application was fun. did not think id hear back. chapman application was fun. did not think id hear back. chapman application was fun. did not think id hear back. chapman application was fun. did not think id hear back.
I was interviewed at the start of January and just received my acceptance letter! Applied for scholarships as well, but didn't hear back from them yet. I had prior film experience and studied something unrelated to film in undergrad.
It was a relatively easy application. There aren't many (or any, iirc) specific written supplements for the program, just a general "submit anything" portfolio and statement of creative intent.
The standout of the process has been how communicative and warm the grad admissions staff is. I was...
The application was pretty straightforward. The most challenge piece was writing up a dramatic scene. It took me a while to come up with an idea, but I was really happy with the end product. I also found the self-portrait to be an oddly satisfying, self-reflection exercise. For my sample, I...
The application process went smoothly, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear back from the program so quickly. Since I was working full-time while preparing my application materials, it was a stressful period, but I’m glad I was able to complete everything successfully.

Of the two applications I did for this cycle (USC and NYU) I definitely felt like the USC application was the one I was able to have the most fun with. I had a really good time putting my short film together with my wife and my best friend and the written supplements felt a little looser than...
