The application process so far has been challenging, clarifying, and unexpectedly affirming. It has required me to slow down and take inventory of the last several years—my academic journey, my leadership roles, the films I’ve created, and the experiences that have shaped my voice. In pushing...
Hi everyone, I'm going to write a little introductory post here as per Chris's automated recommendations. I am 36 years old and I've been a classical musician for basically my whole adult life. I completed a PhD in music composition right before COVID hit. I was always interested in the furthest...
Hi friends,
I've leaned that NYU's graduate film program allows students writer their own scripts, then directs and edits it. Students collaborate/help others' set only as gaffer, cameraman etc. Is there any other film schools in the world got the similar mode instead of mandatorily...
I've been looking at both MA and MFA directing courses, with a particular focus on two: the NFTS Directing Fiction MA and the AFI Directing MFA and an aim to start in 2026 or 2027 - by then I'll be in my late 20s.
As both courses are highly competitive, I'd really like my application to be as...
I applied last year but unfortunately didn’t make it to the interview. I was planning to give up this year, but on the day before the deadline, I decided to apply and managed to prepare all the materials within a day. The overall application process was quite smooth — it only required answering...
The application was very clear - nothing confusing about it. You can complete it within two days, especially if you have all the documents ready. It took me quite some time to write and refine my statement of purpose and statement of goals, as well as to put my portfolio together and update my...
The essays ask a lot of introspective questions that take time to think over and answer thoughtfully. I found that to be the most difficult and intensive part of the application, but other than that very straightforward.
First time applying. Not expecting to get in, using it more as a practice run for writing the application. Vaguely hoping to get an interview as a practice run for the next time I apply / for other schools in the future.
Write & Direct is an online film school that is very hands on. You will come up with an idea and take it through all phases of the filmmaking process: Development, Pre-Production, Production and Post. You will learn everything you need to know to begin making movies. And the goal of this...
It’s was good, the same standard application as before with six questions about you and why you want to study at the NFTS, followed by a 2 page proposal for a short or feature project and then 15min portfolio of your own directing work.
Pretty good, the website can be a bit outdated and ran into some complications but they respond quickly and are very understanding. The interview was kind of intimidating but everyone there was nice. I was waitlisted but hopefully I will be off the waitlist soon since FSU is my first choice.
The application and interview process has been really smooth! I interviewed with Matthew Moore and it was a really good conversation. I'm really looking forward to this program.
Online application is a bit outdated, and it took a while for my checklist to be updated. Emails take a long time to be answered as well. There is a lot of flexibility in the portfolio.
First application I submitted. Self-intro video was challenging, but I appreciated the lack of restrictions in the portfolio. Quite a lot of materials required.
I was able to repurpose most materials from previous applications. First application I heard back from and first interview scheduled. I wasn't very optimistic about my interview performance as I was extremely nervous, but it ended up being my first acceptance as well.
Process was pretty straightforward. I enjoyed writing the materials, especially the one regarding influences. Communication has been friendly and efficient.
This is way too long of a question process. It was going fine until I was unhappy with the result lol. I had a great interview. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
First time applying. They don't require any visual portfolio materials, only a film treatment, I think to keep the process fair for applicants who don't have access to cameras and materials, which is cool. They only host interviews over zoom for the same reason, so no formal opportunity to visit...
Relatively straightforward application process, a statement of purpose (that also functions like an artist statement) and a portfolio, which was flexible in terms of content and structure. I enjoyed going to their interview day, meeting faculty in person as well as other applicants and seeing...
