First time applying. Managed to (sometimes) enjoy the application process despite it being very demanding.
My rejection letter indicated that the weakest link in my application was also the most important part, the 2-minute short. I don't think my short was bad, but it wasn't strong, and it was...
First time applying. Application requirements were slightly different from the other schools I applied to, I enjoyed having to write about my influences. I would recommend going to the interview day in person, I enjoyed seeing the campus, meeting faculty and students (and other applicants), and...
First time applying. Going in I was aware that the application requirements were extensive, but I was still surprised by how much time and effort was needed. The process was a little confronting, I realised I had to be completely honest with myself, and apply as myself instead of as the person...
Hi, so I am at a bit of a crossroads in life right now.
I am a senior at an arts high school in Miami, and I am currently considering two schools: Miami-Dade College for Film and Television, and FSU for a BA in theatre. (I applied to their film school, but was rejected; however, I have a friend...
The application was long and arduous! I worked on my essay 5 months lol.
This year we were requires to submit a 1-2 min video telling the school something about ourselves that they wouldn't get from our personal statement. This felt really tough--tougher than the writing.
Easy and straightforward process. Just do exactly what the website says, fill out forms, gather documents, etc. Try to have all of your items needed before you start your application and it should go smoothly.
Columbia's was one of the more thorough applications. They truly want to get to know you, otherwise they wouldn't be asking for like so much creative material. Every part of the application is like getting to know a new facet about myself. The lesson is always being true to who you are.
In the...
Hi guys, this is your sign to cast a wide net. I applied to 9 programs and as of right now USC is one of two I got an interview with. Can't believe I was accepted and super excited to attend.
Since this is my second time applying, I was already familiar with the application. The application consists of a personal statement, writing sample, treatment, prompt and an optional visual sample. Everything was straightforward, except rewriting all new materials took more effort the second...
The process was pretty straightforward. I already had a pretty accomplished film to submit as a part of my application. Most of my time went to my narrative statement and writing sample. I started my application in September and submitted a day before the deadline.
Application went well - I enjoyed creating my film for the "urgency" prompt. I applied one other time 2 years ago, and I feel like my application was much stronger this time.
So far it's been thorough and comprehensive, and as of 06/02/2025 I'm just waiting for any notification further. Not knowing when I will hear back from Columbia has been somewhat of a disadvantage to the process. Feels like I've been forgotten altogether.
Heard back about the interviews pretty quick but it seems like they only take one fifth of the people doing the interviews. Received mine on Feb 5th in Japan, scheduled to interview on March 5th.
Waitlisted after interview, not applying next year. Interview itself went ok with two ladies, was...
My first application, with its deadline on November 15th. I can't say it wasn't challenging, but it was more because of being the first application.
They were great in answering questions and concerns, specifically Kimberly Bogin was an angle!
First time ever tried directing a film/video and spent 3 months on it. I was super stressed out at the developing stage. Everything was a first-time experience.
They were extremely thorough with the materials they wanted, from a feature film pitch to an intellectual analysis to every single film we've made. I liked the process very much.
I must give them credit for their patience. My ace film had not been completed by their deadline. I requested an...
I like the AFI application because it requires introspection about oneself in the submission. I believe this is meant to show your awareness of your creative process and your ability to evaluate your own work as honestly as possible.
I sent an excerpt of a short that I shot back in 2023 to fit...
Pretty straight forward application. I took an essay from another app and expanded it to fulfill the few specific requirements AFI asked for outside of the general personal statement.
Great, but nerve wrecking! I really love nyu and hope i can get an interview! Very excited for early Feb or whenever to see if I get a call back, but we'll see.
