Pretty straightforward application.
My short took much more time than anticipated. I was done with adding minute changes to edit before the deadline approached.
Essays were also straightforward.
I have a bachelors and masters degree in engineering and currently working in the US (but applying as...
PSA: start your applications early. I'd been thinking about applying for years, and still found myself scrambling at the last minute to get my materials in. USC app is even one of the easier mfa apps
The process was smooth, I had materials from the other applications that overlapped and made this an easy choice as another submissioon. I enjoy that Chapman lets you upload as many narrative short films that you have completed.
I found the process really fun! It has the most requirements from any film school, but I really enjoyed the prompts and variety of the application.
The short video was difficult to get right (thanks, millennial pause lol) but I got there in the end. I found the creative sample of writing a...
This application was quite intensive, especially since there were a number of supplemental materials needed for it. This program also has the earliest deadline so be sure to work on this one as early as possible! I only decided to apply about a month out and it was definitely challenging!
I struggled with writing the SOP and Personal Statement. I found this application to be a lot less "fun" than other ones (i.e. USC). But I am happy with what I was finally able to produce. I'm glad I gave myself a lot of time to brainstorm, edit, brainstorm, edit, on and on.
Went very well, spent a lot of time preparing materials and like the short I submitted. Really enjoyed doing the supplementary materials. A lot of overlap with other applications.
Hey guys, so I am applying to both USC and AFI for the Fall 2024 semester with an emphasis on directing. I had shot a several short films over the past few years but the one that I am the most satisfied with is a rather longer one (15mins). As I was just looking at USC's media sample...
I have been preparing all of my materials since the beginning of the year, even before the prompt was released. I'm so glad I spent so much time on them as I'm super proud and happy with both my short films, personal statement, and other supplemental materials.
Hello all!
I'm looking for examples of effective personal statements. I've read virtually every piece of advice about being yourself, staying honest to your voice, not trying to win anyone over, etc. but I would really love to see some essay examples that have successfully worked in the past...
A long waiting period with very little information offered to applicants about the status of their application. A few people have been invited to interviews. I haven't received one.
The application process wasn't too bad! I worked on my application over a one month span, including making my film sample. Waiting for their decision was definitely the hardest part.
Pretty straightforward application. Outside of the personal statement and creative portfolio list, they only wanted a short essay on collaboration experience, a short writing sample, a 30-60 second video introduction, and one 5 minute film.
The application is short and straightforward. Maximize what you can in that space. The interview was also short, but very pleasant. The professors I spoke with were very nice and the conversation was very natural.
Overall, no complaints.
It has been going well I believe! Shared a google drive document with hyperlinks to portfolio films and other supplemental materials. Writing sample was an extended version of a short I started making specifically for graduate applications. I figured, plenty of other shorts have been later made...
Pretty good but I've been waitlisted and I don't really know the chance I have to get in. I thought I had a great interviews. The interviewers were fascinated by me, but apparently not enough.
Basically just silence until I got the rejection. Pretty straightforward process, but kind of underwhelming? Seems like they really lean toward experienced candidates, but of course I have not heard that from them.
