How should we address faculty?

Guys... I know this is such a dumb question - bear with me 😂 I cannot believe this is what has me stumped during this whole application process but... I really have no idea what to call film school teachers/professors.

Like I'm currently emailing a professor and director of the program I applied to about a Zoom call. His first email was signed as his full name (and "Professor" in his email signature), I referred to him as "Professor [surname]" in my first reply and his reply to that was signed as just his first name. Should I call him by first name now? How does it work in American arts schools? This also has me worried about my other upcoming interviews and not knowing how to address my interviewers.

During my arts undergraduate studies in the UK, we would call any faculty just by first name - no matter if they were technically professors or not. So I'm just really confused. I don't know the first thing about the social dynamics of American arts institutions.

Any advice for my clueless self? Much appreciated 🙏
