Hi everyone, I'm applying to the USC MFA at SCA and was struggling a bit with the collaborative question. I'm not entirely sure what type of lesson do they mean - something more personal or more technical/about the process? I'd wager its a mixture of both but if there is anyone who answered this...
I don't come from a film school background which is why I don't know many filmmakers. I have been making films by myself, and I wonder if anyone has ever done this for the application?
Hey Guys!
I'm applying to USC, NYU & Columbia this year for my MFA and appreciate any suggestions or notes anyone has on my material. This is a general personal essay and will be slightly tailored to each school.
The video is a combination of two projects I worked on during Undergrad...
It's been smooth so far. I run a film production company alongside my job as a news writer, so I'm most comfortable organizing paperwork and cranking out long-form writing samples on demand. I began about two weeks before the portal was scheduled to be open via the USC website, and did a few of...
Hey everyone! The USC graduate application opened today so I figured I would start a thread for those applying for Fall 2023.
USC requires a lot of different materials, has anyone started on them yet? How are they coming along?
Hey guys, I got accepted for fall 22 but couldn't attend due to personal reasons so I'm reapplying for fall 23.
Do all of my creative submissions have to be brand new?
Example: the personal statement, visual sample, writing sample?
what parts of my application can be the same and which parts...
Hey everyone, I was recently accepted to USC's Film & TV production MFA, and wanted to learn more about the process for making a thesis film. As I've heard only around 12 students each year write / direct a thesis. How competitive is this process? How are students selected? What other tracks do...
Hi guys
I am in the incredibly lucky position where I got into four amazing film programs.
I took an oversea trip to visit all four schools thinking I would be able to know which school is right for me after my visits.
But I am now three days away from
the commitment deadline, and I...
Hi all, this is my first time posting here but I've been sleuthing for months now. I'm an extremely indecisive person so this decision is really stressing me out.
I applied as an international student for several MFA programs in the US and I've been accepted for AFI and waitlisted at USC...
Hey guys, I'm trying to decide between Chapman or BU for the Screenwriting MFA and I would love to hear some thoughts about it. I'm trying to do some research here. Thank you!!
The process was very manageable! Like most people, I already had the most time consuming material (20pg original script) ready, and the 5 page challenge + personal statement were expected components to the application.
I had a rough time with the 5pg script, just because they asked for so much...
It was difficult to summarize my academic, professional and spiritual journey all in one essay so I don't believe I did my best in terms of the personal statement. I did try my hardest to convey my passion and thoughts on film though. I think that out of everything I submitted, my visual sample...
Application was similar to others. The only thing I didn't like was the Kira assessment. I don't think it's a good way to get to know us, an interview would be better. We don't have enough time to prepare and answer the questions.
Everything was good so far. I honestly didn't think I would come this far as I'm applying for the first time and had no previous experience with screenwriting. I was very happy to get an interview request :) NYU has always been a dream for me.
It was my first time applying. It was a little difficult to get everything done in time for the application. I was surprised to know that there aren't interviews for the program but I guess they ask for enough materials so they can get to know us. I did not get in this time and I'm waiting to...
First time applying, international student, 4 years working experience. Application was smooth, if expensive. Getting IELTS scores synced was nerve-wracking and I ended up emailing to make sure they were synced.
I've extensively searched for schools offering MFA Programs in Film/Directing/Producing/Screenwriting that are rolling admissions for Spring intake.
I didn't seem to find much. I know USC offers spring admission. I'm not sure if AFI does because as I try to access their portal it doesn't show...

Hey everyone,
I applied for MFA at NYU this year, and have not heard back anything yet. I think rejected applications do not get any kind of feedback from the school, so I wanted to share my application material here, hoping some of you could take out some time to let me know where I could...
The application process went very well! It was definitely a more involved application than the ones for the other schools I applied to.
I submitted this application about 2.5 months after my other ones, so I had time to really think about my process and reevaluate how I was presenting myself...
