Hi, everyone!
First off, I want to say that I'm aware that this is a great problem to have, but I still want to ensure that I make the right choice, so any input is appreciated.
My ideal career goal would be to be a television showrunner or upper-level television writer/producer. I have a BFA...

It was fairly straightforward. You answer a couple of essay questions, have to get three people who give you a recommendation and record an unedited video of yourself. You don't have many words/characters to answer each question, so you have to make sure you tell a lot about yourself without...
Hi everyone- I am a former political science major who just decided to change to screenwriting after considering it for about a year. I love creative writing and decided to pursue a career that I would be happy with. My goal is definitely to try to get into USC Cinematic Arts in the Fall of...
The application process was pretty straightforward! For the creative writing sample, I had a lot of existing short pieces of writing (poems, 2-3 page personal essays, etc.) so that was more of a "pick your favorite children and bundle them together" kinda situation for me. For my creative...
A lot of work. But good work. I really dived into shooting my own short film for the application and it solidified why I want to go to film school. I spent a lot of time on the essays. My recommendations were strong, I think, one from my long time acting coach/undergrad professor/former...
Not sure if this is helpful, but a little about me:
I graduated with BFA in acting from UNCSA in 2018. Did UCLA's Professional Program in 2022-2023 where I won the drama pilot competition at the end of the program and was featured in Deadline. Had a few other high placements in competitions and...
Hi guys, this is your sign to cast a wide net. I applied to 9 programs and as of right now USC is one of two I got an interview with. Can't believe I was accepted and super excited to attend.
Smooth; my first time applying. Re: questions, USC's admissions department was responsive and helpful.
I am open to answering questions about the process.

The application was really dense, and the limited word counts made each essay very difficult - but it was a really enjoyable process. I gave myself a few months to work on all facets of this application and I’m glad I did. I feel like I really put my best effort out there and no matter what...
No big surprises or administrative hurdles. I also applied to the grad producing program and they did have me rank the two programs in terms of preference which I thought was interesting. The two scene prompts were interesting and fun to get into.
I'm pretty verbose by nature, so the character limits were tough. Other than that, I found the application pretty straightforward. I applied to more than one program, and they do ask you to rank them in order of preference.
This application was beefy - it took a long time to put it together. I had never directed a film under 5 minutes before, so making a 2 minute short was very challenging for me. I submitted the application a day before it was due.
Submitted all requirements needed. The new requirements meant I had to completely redo my application from what I submitted before, but for the better!
