Hi! As most people on this site I’m nervous as hell about the application process and was hoping I could get a bit of feedback on my personal statement to SCA’s BFA film production program. Would be insanely appreciated since the deadline is in a week and want to make some last minute changes...
I found the process really fun! It has the most requirements from any film school, but I really enjoyed the prompts and variety of the application.
The short video was difficult to get right (thanks, millennial pause lol) but I got there in the end. I found the creative sample of writing a...
I screwed up and didn't submit my materials in time for this cycle. I even paid the graduate application fee so thats $90 lost whew. Can any current or former students help me feel better about not attending your MFA program? I'm actually pretty disappointed because the program was high on my list.
The University of Southern California is one of the most competitive universities worldwide. According to prepscholar.com, the School of Cinematic arts has an acceptance rate of only 3%.
However, Filmschool.org members have reported much higher acceptance rates. Thanks to our Application...
Hey guys, so I am applying to both USC and AFI for the Fall 2024 semester with an emphasis on directing. I had shot a several short films over the past few years but the one that I am the most satisfied with is a rather longer one (15mins). As I was just looking at USC's media sample...

Hello all! My name is Dave and I am currently pursuing graduate studies in Film Production. Like some of you on here, my path to filmmaking was not the most traditional. I had previously attended Colorado State University - Pueblo straight out of high school but a personal tragedy prompted me to...
Hey everyone!
I'm getting ready to apply to the Writing for Screen and TV BFA at USC. Applications for fall 2024 admission are due December 1st.
Anyone else?
It's a 4-year sequential program, so I'm a little bit nervous that if accepted I might be the only non-18-year-old. Does anyone have...
Hey all, I'm excited to be applying this fall! For the past couple of months I've been slowly but surely putting together my application materials. Hoping to connect with others going down this scary path and hopefully help each other out with questions and encouragement!
A bit about me, got...
This was the longest application. I submitted a sample of writing that I actually did not think was my best but it worked! It was the first few pages of a romantic comedy feature. I got really personal with my most challenging moment (accepting anxiety). I was really casual with my...
Hello! I got accepted into both Chapman (fall 2023) and USC (spring 2024) for film and television production which is something I am beyond grateful for! I am very torn to which school I should attend and I thought I would ask you all for any advice you might have on the topic. Due to financial...

USC SCA application has gone well. USC's proper common application was less than perfect but my application directly to SCA was strong. No interviews are given to transfer applicants according to USC's website so just playing the waiting game currently. USC is also the dream. With such a...
Obviously I have had months to gauge my expectations, knowing that my experience likely does not parallel more than half of the USC MFA applicants. To my knowledge, I was provided pretty strong letters of rec from the executive director of an independent cinema I was a programming intern for and...
Curious about which film schools produced the most winners and nominees at the 95th Academy Awards? We ranked the top 4 film schools at the film industry’s biggest night of the year according to their ratio of Academy Awards nominations to wins and the weight of each category. Plus, find out how...
Hi guys! I got accepted by both USC's John Wells Division of Writing for Screen & Television and UCLA's TFT Screenwriting. I had a very nice interview with UCLA, but I'm very concerned about TFT's status reading last year's post. Is the Screenwriting department also in deep trouble? For USC...
So I was waitlisted at the USC MFA program for Fall of 2023 with admission in the Spring of 2024. Even though they are giving me admission for Spring of 2024, is there anything I can do to get off the waitlist for Fall of 2023? Any letters or essays I can write?
The application procedure was great. I felt the questions were oriented in more personal approach
If you're applying to this course in the future, don't hesitate to reach out to me if I can be of any help!
Hi all! Has anyone who was accepted into any of USC's MFA programs heard back about scholarships/fellowships?
I emailed admissions awhile back and they said to hold tight until the end of March as they're still rolling out decision letters. Just curious as to whether anyone else has gotten a...
