Yeah the NYU intranet was quite underwhelming. :) But I guess it's a place to go check whether or not the journey continues. (how poetic...) Anyways, did you submit the photo option as your creative portfolio?

Yes, I did. :)

In other news, Northwestern sent me sign in information to check on my application status. Based on their own listed requirements, I shouldn't have to take the GRE. But the GRE was listed as not received on the page about my application status and made my app status "incomplete." I'm guessing that could have happened to some other students who didn't take the GRE too, which is why I thought I'd mention it here. I immediately sent the graduate department a message about it and will see what I'm told about the issue.

@Paul J. If you go to the analytics page on your video, there should be a pie chart that says playback locations. If you click on that, it will bring you to a page that has a list of playback locations. One of these options should say something like "embedded in external websites and apps.”You can click each playback location, and it will give you more information. When I click on embedded links, it shows where people are finding my film. Two places that pop up are slideroom.com and columbia.edu. Hope that helps your investigating! :)

Speaking of NYU's intranet...Did anyone else go into a blind panic when they first got the email? I saw the “check the status of you application” subject line, and immediately assumed that they had denied me. Hahaha. :P

@katavi08 Haha. Didn't go straight into panic mode on that one but I was quite confused why they would go to such lengths to provide all access to NYU's intra. I mean - most of us won't be making the cut so seems like a waste of their time.

Also, I tried clicking around and was not able to find the exact source. I found that it was watched on a macintosh but thats about it :) But since you said yours was watched last thursday and mine was on tuesday - I'm betting heavier on Columbia. (unless they just randomly happen to be going through the applications at the very same time which is completely possible). When did you get the hit on your slideroom?

Yeah, the NYU thing is weird. I don't know why they would give everyone access either.

Speaking of weird; the hit on my slideroom link happened on December 29, so a few weeks ago. It doesn't look like anyone has watched it since then. Again, my analytics show that this particular hit came from New York. It has to be NYU, as Columbia doesn't use Slideroom. I'm only saying this is weird because the recent email to access NYU's intanet said that the admissions counselors would start looking over material in the coming weeks. If that's true, then who watched my video on the 29th? They watched 10 minutes of the 13 minute video, so it seems like something more then just someone going through the application and making sure the link worked, but maybe. Ugh! This is so crazy! Haha. :)

That is interesting. Maybe they got a jump start on going through the applications since, I'm guessing there might be quite a few of them? And the e-mail being kind of a standard thing to send out early on to let ppl know the process is moving forward. I'm betting on the slideroom hit being an actual view since, as you said, they watched the majority of it. Unless it is unspeakably awesome and hooking that an assistant couldn't pull him/herself away? ;) How long did the other hit (Columbia) watch your application? Speculation is food for the waiting at this point :)

Haha! That would be nice! I think I'll tell myself it was an assistant, as the thought of the admissions people at either NYU or Columbia watching my film is not helping the anxiety! The Columbia.edu hit shows they watched about seven minutes. I think it's safe to say that the committees are starting to look.

Yup. And I wonder if multiple people evaluate our work? Interesting times. So, out of all the schools you applied to @katavi08 which one takes the top spot if all want to take you in? :)

How long is your application video and where did the hit originate from? Just got an e-mail from NYU saying to disregard the instructions how to check your status online. You guys probably got the same - so I guess access to the intra was not meant to happen?

I just got the same email. I'd agree the access to the intra was probably not meant to happen, which would explain why there wasn't much info there when we logged in.

@Paul J. I would have to say my #1 right now is Chapman, with Columbia being a close second. I also really like University of Miami. They're not one of the top programs, but they have a funky, unique feel that I appreciate. What about you?

So much for intranet. Haha! It did seem fishy that they were giving us access to all of that so early on.
In other recent updates: My video has new hits on it. I'm on my work computer right now, so I won't be able to check the analytics till I get home, but the view count has gone up. The suspense! :P

@AxelBelle Since NYU uses slideroom, your hit might have been from Columbia! So spill the beans and join the speculation train!

@katavi08 WOW! Rush onto your personal computer and lets have some detailed analytics going on! :)

On another note - based on the very few who have filled out the google sheet, not one has applied to AFI. I was going to but they changed the portfolio requirements drastically so that previous work didn't help. Been too busy to make anything spesifically for them (and the quality wouldn't be the same anyways) so I skipped them. For what my personal favorite at the moment is, couldn't say. I am kinda secretly wishing that I'd get admitted to one school to take the desicion off my back. :D

Ugh! YouTube will only let me look at the analytics up until the 18th. Looks like they won't show me information on the new hits until tomorrow. :(

I thought of applying to AFI, but had a couple of reasons for eliminating it from the group of schools I applied to. The screenwriting program at AFI just didn't feel right for what I wanted out of a program and my circumstances. The main school I would have liked to have had time to apply to is UCLA for screenwriting, followed by U of Texas or the MFA in Dramatic Writing at NYU (I only applied to the Film program).

I got it confirmed by Northwestern that the status of my application will be changed to complete. I was told they process the applications manually and so the application portal, or "check your application status" area, has the status incomplete before that happens. I've really liked their communication so far.

Would love to know your main reasons. I haven't really heard anything of AFI's screenwriting department. They have been doing good in other departments though. I did have the opportunity to visit them once and the campus, though in a very grandiose surrounding, wasn't anything too special.

@katavi08 Any news on the new hit?

I din't have a concrete reason for not applying to AFI. Honestly, they never entered my mind when I was researching schools to apply to.
@Paul J. Youtube is showing me that someone watched my video on the 18th, but it's not showing me the source! It says the location of the hit is unknown. I've only given this link to the grad schools (Columbia, NYU, and Miami specifically), so it has to be one of them. They're getting tricky! :P
The good news is they watched all 13 minutes of it! :)

Good luck all! Interview times are near! (At least for NYU that is). Good luck to all who are applying to NYU! :D
