Film School 2016 (1 Viewer)

Thanks for the advice guys, definitely a bit more at ease. Did you all receive an email from USC about the financial aid and scholarship options?

Hey Panda, have you had any issues with the graduate admissions office receiving your transcripts? I finally received a response email this Tuesday about scanning and sending my official transcripts in an email attachment in order to expedite the process.

I haven't had any issues with transcripts, thankfully. Sounds like a lot of people are having trouble with them, hopefully the email approach will solve it all!

Happy New Year Everybody!! We finally made it to 2016!! How's everyone doing? I was on here the other day looking at previous years threads, and it looks like February is the month where people start hearing back from their schools. Hopefully in a few weeks we all start having good news to share!! :)

Agreed! Looking forward to seeing happy/anxious posts to keep us informed!

Does anyone have plans to apply to scholarships this spring?

Hi all
I posted this in the Columbia University thread, but I wanted to put it here too. This is a link to a google doc that was started by last year's applicants. It lists the user, what schools and programs they applied to, as well as the dates they received interview notifications, acceptances, etc. I think this could give us an approximate timeline of when she should start hearing from each school. There's also a Fall 2016 tab in this doc. Might be a good way for us to keep track of things once we start hearing from these places.

Thanks for posting katavi. Crazy to think that in one month, some of us could have gotten interview invitations. Hrrrrrggg.

Although schools don't like to release the statistics, it seems pretty obvious that our subject pool has a higher success rate than the general population; at a glance it even seems to approach a 50/50 accept/reject (only counting complete information), which I'm guessing is much higher than reality. An optimistic reading of the data suggests that as a member of the forum you have a better chance of getting in. I think that's probably true, BUT...objectively, it's probably more likely that those who got accepted were more motivated to contribute to the data! ;)

hey, I applied some graduate schools from UCSD. haha
He got back to me and said he will send it tonight. I feel good, but I'll feel better once he actually does it ;) The thing is, I know he already wrote it because I used his recommendation for UCLA too. I got scared because he didn't reply to my emails for a few weeks. Phew.

Here's a note for anybody reading this in the future: the USC person I've been emailing told me today that I would not be penalized if I only had 2 letters. She said they understand that sometimes people are unreliable and they won't hold a student responsible if someone leaves you hanging. That makes me feel much more positively about things! (Of course, I don't think you should plan on this, but it's nice to hear!)

Ok, a tidbit of info from my end. Just went to double-check that my youtube-link still works, popped into "statistics" and noticed that on the 12th someone from the States watched 14min of my application video. And due to USC having it's own system, it was bound to be someone from either Columbia or NYU - so it is on, guys!

On a more concerning note, the whole length of my application video is around double that. So whoever watched it did not make it to the end of the first film of my application. So I'm guessing, pressed for time, they got what they needed after the first half. Kind of a bummer, since there would have been another style short/scenes afterwards but it is what it is. Whether it is good news or bad news cutting it short remains to be seen but I have to say I would have been less concerned if they would have gone through the whole video.

Interesting times.

What was the date and did you apply to NYU as well? Let the guessing games begin! - How long was your application video and how much did they view?

I have also had hits on my Youtube video as well. My statistics shows a hit last Thursday from Columbia.edu, so someone there has been looking! I also had a hit from Slideroom, and when I looked further into that, the statistic showed that the person who clicked the Sliderrom link was from New York. Since Columbia doesn't use Slideroom, I'm assuming that's NYU. How exciting and nerve-wracking!

Don't worry Paul J., whoever is looking didn't watch all of my video either. Which is funny because I gave them a 13 minute video, and they only watched 10 minutes. Maybe they only give each video sample 10 minutes before moving on? My guess is since they get so many applications, they probably only watch enough to get a sense of your work.

That's what I told myself! :) However, you never know. How did you get columbia.edu out of the stats? I'd love to dig further. Also where did you see that your slideroom application had been checked out? I thought NYU was via a youtube link as well... or was there a duration restriction? I had marked on my notes that youtube was the platform for my NYU application as well.

Thanks for posting, all - the latest discussion has been interesting. I didn't submit a video to either NYU or Columbia, so unfortunately I have no data to contribute on whether my video has been viewed. I did receive log in data to check my NYU application last week, but there wasn't much information when I logged in.
