Need advice, please!...

Hey all,

As suggested a member of this community, I finally create an account. That's because I actually have something to post.

OK, here is the thing. I'm an international and haven't been accepted to the programs I wanted. I'll sure reapply next year; but in the meantime I have a one-year gap (I guess I'm not the only one).
So, I'm asking anyone of you, students or professionals in the US: What would you say is the best thing to do for this year? I don't care in what country, I just want to get close to writing... enough waisting time with unrelated jobs or production internships.
I'm tempted by the idea of just writing for a year, but this doesn't seem great for the "experience" section of the portfolio, right?...

I'm so lost, any help would be greatly appreciated!

You're doing screenwriting correct?

Find some Screenwriting classes if you haven't already. Refine your skills and build a good relationship with your teachers. I think it helps a lot to have a screenwriting teacher write you a letter of recommendation.

Also, try to write a lot. Try writing a full-length screenplay. We all work at different speeds but if you can get something finished in several months, you could send it to a place like www.scriptsavvy.net or scriptshark who can review your script and help you with your weaknesses.
