Writing Prog. at VFS

In looking for a screenwriting program, I've momentarily blocked out the universities, as the inclusion of academics has fairly well hindered my creative process in past occasions. I'm interested in the intensive structure at Vancouver Film School, but I keep hearing very mixed feelings about it(more of the negative on this site). I'm curious if anyone has any insight or experience regarding the VFS writing program, and/or knows of of a similarly structured program that might be a better alternative. I realize many on this site are more focused on the entire filmmaking process than the sole writing aspect, but I'd still appreciate any feedback you might have.

For the record, this is an inquiry about CERTIFICATE programs for screenwriting, and not computer formatting programs like Final Draft. It seems some have chosen to steer from the educational path and simply trust their own writing instincts. I have not reached that point yet, and for now am looking for a ralatively non-academic environment where I can develop my discipline as a writer.
I probably could have said all of that in two sentences, but I tend to choose the more complicated path, such as pursuing a school for screenwriting.
