Film School 2016 (1 Viewer)

@katavi08 Your insights are very helpful and insightful. I'm encouraged I went deep in my personal statement and decided to just be real about who I am; now I just hope who I am doesn't rub an admissions counselor the wrong way, haha.

Hey guys
I've uploaded a quick screen cap of my interview email from Columbia. I'm really posting this here just to prove to myself that this is real, because I was not in any way expecting this! But, I do have a confirmation for an interview on Feb. 28th!! It's starting you guys!!!

I was really hoping other people on here would have said they gotten something, because now I'm worried it was a mistake! haha. My status has not changed on my application page. It still has the list of all of my application materials with the green check mark that says received.

Honestly doubt it's a mistake. Congratulations!

My guess is that they'll start sending more interview invites tomorrow. I'm wondering if they only send a few out at a time, so their system doesn't get backed up.
Also,If anyone's wondering about the statistics: my last name starts with A (don't know if they do things alphabetically), and I live in the U.S. I received the email at 4:50pm Eastern Standard Time.

This is surreal honestly. I was preparing to hear something (or not) next week at the earliest.

A huge congratulations!!! This is getting so real

That is so cool! I was certain ot would be atleast another 2 weeks until invitations go out! Remember to update the spreadsheet! Do you think they work during the weekends on these? My guess is that monday is the next day to wait for. You applied to creative producing? Could be that the wait is longer for us screenwriting/directing applicants. And one more time: Congrats!

CONGRATULATIONS :)

Hi. I already posted on the Columbia uni thread, but not on this one. For all of you who are wondering about the interviews invites, I'll tell you what I know from my experience of two years ago when I first applied to Columbia.

Though I did not get in, I did get an interview. I was already on this forum, and it was very nerve wrecking because as soon as the end of january, just like it is happening right now, a lot of people would post about receiving an interview invitation. I waited and waited but nothing. And when I had pretty much given up hope, I got an interview invite.... on march 18th!!! (I just checked the date on my email account ;) ) So yeah, Columbia does send out invites sporadically, and it has nothing to do with alphabetical order because my last name starts with B and I was amongst the last people to be contacted. I thing they have several people taking care of all those applications, and some are just faster than others to go through them, it's as simple as that.
I hope this info will help calm those of you who are getting desperate... you still got time ;)

In the meantime, Congrats again @katavi08 :)

Based on the 2015 spreadsheet, it looks like creative producing students were notified at the end of January 2015 and the screenwriting/directing people were notified in the second week of Feb. It would make sense to me if screenwriting/directing people started being notified on a different date this year than the creative producing students for that reason, but I can only speculate since I haven't applied before.

This is good info - thanks for sharing!

Thanks for all the kind words everyone! :) I'm still reeling from yesterday! What a surprise! Very happy to say I will be going down to NYC on February 29th for my interview! Based on the way the sign up system is set up, it does seem like the type of thing where they would send invites out in batches, at set times.
I did apply to the creative producing program, and judging by the information here, it does seem that producers get notified before the directors/screenwriters. I'm sure you all will get something soon! :) Then we can all go from panicking about hearing back to panicking about our interviews! The stress never ends. :P

Talking about interveiws - any tips on those, based on your experience? I thought I saw some posts from previous years with asked questions and all but for some reason I am not finding them anywhere... Maybe if they turn up somewhere we could start a new thread that is all about interviews, prepping for them and all that jazz.

Congrats, is Columbia your first choice?
Chapman and Columbia are probably tied for my 1st choice at this point! :)

@Paul J. I know what post you're talking about. It's in one of the 2015 threads. I've been thinking about starting a new thread for interviews, acceptances, and rejections like previous years. I'm happy to start that if people would like it, or we can keep everything in this thread. :)

@katavi08 I think a new seperate threads for those might be a good idea, especially for randoms finding their way to the forums, looking for info. We could keep this as a general chatterbox as it has been so far :) If you can find the thread and info - would be superawesome!
