Northwestern MFA 2025

Did you interview as well? Hope it went well!
I did! This was my first time applying to any program. I was honestly quite surprised to receive an interview!

My interview experience was very similar to the ones shared here: topics I might be concerned to write about, what I want to focus on/why Northwestern, and a movie/show/play I saw recently that made an impact/surprised me.

Everyone was very nice and it was a very friendly interview environment. :)

Thank you, and hope it went well for you, too!

One week out from the interview! How is everyone feeling? Did anyone find out an approx timeline for next contact? They just sort of told me they’d be in touch but didn’t say when
I emailed and was told 4-6 weeks. But looks like historically offers have been sent sometime in March, so it literally could be any day now or weeks from now lol

how are you feeling?!

Honestly I interviewed and was waitlisted at UT last year and obviously didn’t end up there, so I feel like I’m more aware this year that all these great things could happen and I could still end up without the end result. I don’t want to be too much of a doomer but I feel like I’m so aware of it, which I even mentioned while asking the group my questions in my interview—I feel like that may have hurt me if I came off as unconfident or something, but I was kind of frank that they take only a few people and I’m well aware it might not be me🙃😬 I feel like the more I think about it I’m like did I bomb by saying that lol. I thought I answered all of their questions really well with great enthusiasm and such, but maybe my questions or the way I phrased them were bad😂 idk i don’t want to give up hope before I hear the result, but at the same time I’m like I’ve been here before and it’s hard not to be already planning for next year😂 what about you?

Honestly, similarly! I wasn’t expecting to get an interview. I prepared for that best I could and now I’m back to assuming the worst for my own sanity 😂 I also played the interview again thru my head, and went from feeling okay to terrible to “it wasn’t that bad.” Looking back, some of my answers were better than others, but I think it’s good to remind yourself you did the best you could with the information you had and time you were given! You were yourself and you were honest, and I think that’s valued more highly than people might think. That’s definitely something to be proud of!

LOL I agree!! I feel like I've been trying to tell myself that ultimately if you're yourself in an interview and it doesn't go well, another door will open that's a better fit anyway! :) I'm sure you were great! I think that being authentic and giving your answers in the moment rather than overpreparing is honestly a good strategy for an interview like this where they're trying to gauge what you're like. so even if you feel like you could've done better i think that's better than being too rehearsed. honestly i keep wondering if they would even like someone who was too confident but maybe i'm just trying to make myself feel better 😂 😂 😂 😂ofc being confident is not a bad thing but maybe you know what I mean😂 idk if i'm explaining this well lol!!!

Omg! I’m so sorry and also so surprised! That does seem super early I agree! I haven’t seen anyone say they got in so it’s surprising they’d send out rejections at this point
It's all good. Only hoping for the best with my other applications.
Thank you, and good luck. I want to see people from here get in because that is very rare.

Yeah, good luck to you! I see we’re both still waiting for UCR, which looks like an amazing school, so best of luck with it🤩

Shout into the void: did anybody else in this group receive a rejection or an acceptance?! I’m so interested bc I kind of assume some acceptances must have gone out??

I have not received any news yet. Currently waiting on here and Columbia. I just want to get this over with lol.

It's just the 6th, and Northwestern has served me with a rejection email. I'm quite surprised a decision is out this early.
Sorry to hear but wishing you the very best for all your future endeavors, every opportunity is a learning experience, did you get the decision after the interview?

Hey all -- just got my acceptance email! Literally a dream come true, I'm so hyped.

Sending you all good vibes with this and other applications!!!
Woohoo! Fully funded too! :) Congrats that's super AWESOME!
