Proprietary Rights?

I recently heard that schools like NYU and USC have proprietary rights over the projects of undergrad students, which I personally think is a bit ridiculous. What other schools have these, and how can I find this out for myself? Googling didn't really give me any results. Thanks, y'all

I know some schools do. We'll be putting together a list of schools and their features soon but it's not ready yet. Hopefully someone will chime in with an answer for you. I think... (but I could be wrong) that's it's mainly the big schools that do that for some reason. I'm pretty positive Chapman does not. Right @Mike_V ?

I'm not really sure about undergrads, but as long as I know about grad school, it mostly depends on if you fund your own projects or school pays them. If schools pay the production cost, the film naturally belongs to the schools, but if you pay for your piece, you can have them.
I have heard grad NYU grad school doesn't own the rights for students' works though.

Yes, Chapman actually retains right to use your film, but rights to distribute and such are all the student's (key creatives).
That's one of the big draws of Chapman. You actually own your film. Chapman just has a clause that says they're allowed to use your film in their promotional material afaik.
