Well, as of today at 8:41am, I am officially not admitted to UT. I applied for screenwriting.

I suppose this doesn't bode well for my USC application, also in screenwriting. The one thing I'm holding on to is the fact that the applications were so different. There was much more creative writing in the USC application, and I'm sure that my mediocre academic writing sample (which isn't even required at USC) did not serve me well at UT. I also had more recommendations for my USC app. So we'll see, I think I had a much stronger application for USC but the competition there is obviously much more fierce so it will be interesting to see how it pans out.

I heard through an ex-Michener who teaches at UT that the Michener committee met last night to decide...Calls and letters should start coming out today or tomorrow!!

I got word from the Michener program today, via an email pestering them for info:

We have personally called or emailed everyone who was admitted or wait listed. This year we had almost 1,100 applications up from 750 last year so the competition was especially fierce.

Your script was read and evaluated highly but in the end was not selected. Official decisions can be seen by going to the Graduate Admissions webpage and accessing the "Check Status" link on the left by entering your UT EID. Because we are such a small office, we rely on the Graduate Admissions office to generate letters to candidates so you will probably hear from them officially in the next couple of days.
