2016 Interviews- Acceptances- Rejections

Just finished my interview with Columbia (Directing/Screenwriting). Two profs (directing & writing). Conversational style. Super nice guys. About 20-something minutes.

They asked about the kind of stories I like in general, the kind of stories I'd like to tell, what I'm currently writing and reading, about a story not in my portfolio that I'd like to develop, whether I'm interested in directing since the curriculum includes directing classes in the first year, how my life and the fact that I'm an international inform my stories. Oh, and we discussed how my autobiographical essay relates to the writing portfolio I submitted.

I'm freaking out. I hope it went well, but I have no idea. They said they weren't sure when I'd hear back since "admissions" is a whole team so it's not really in their hands, quite literally. They did say they were talking to me because they found me interesting, so there's that.

Wow!!! So lucky! I think you're one of the first to hear back! If you log on to the portal does it show up?
I applied to TV and film production too! Hopefully I hear back soon :)
Yeah I think so too :) And not yet. Well atleast this is what they said in email - "In order to ensure timely correspondence we are sending your admissions decision to the USC School of Cinematic Arts by email." Thus I expect the update to happen in a while.
And all the best with your application! :)

Btw, I had emailed them just a few hours prior to receiving this mail, regarding when they would send out decisions and if I could send an updated resume. This is what they said,
"You will be receiving an admission decision by mid March!
We are no longer accepting updated materials, since the applications have already been reviewed."

As it was midnight for me then, I wanted to share the info when I woke up. And to my delight, I woke up to the decision letter. So yeah, I think everyone would be hearing from them very soon :)

Wait sorry! One more question!

Do you think they emailed you because you live overseas and because you emailed them? Or was it a generic email that seems like their computers are sending out?

So excited to hear that USC will be getting back to us soon! Has anyone heard back from the Screenwriting MFA program?

I checked my YouSC and nothing has changed, sadly. No news in my inbox either.

No I dont think they would do something like that. Im pretty sure it felt like a computer that sent me the email. And also I had submitted the application about 6 minutes prior to the deadline. So perhaps they are going from the bottom of the list?

Hey guys,

Just like Sibi I received an email from USC last night (I am in London). I am waitlisted for Fall 2016 and will be accepted for Spring 2017 if I don't get in the fall 2016 !!

So yeah they are starting to send the decisions now.

Good luck to everyone ! :)

Congrats to everyone who was successful with any school, in any way! (either accepted or waitlisted)

Having received nothing from UCLA, USC or NYU film/directing admissions, I suppose I should prepare for doing everything all over again next year. At least you guys give me something positive regarding the whole application process this year =))

@Sibi Naayagam, congratulations! Also, greetings from India as well. Haha!

@WriterGirl, I had my interview with Columbia last night, and it was pretty similar to yours. Very conversational, very in-depth, and quite comfortable. I hope we get in! -fingers crossed-

I think we're all about to hear from all the schools really soon, guys! Exciting news is right around the corner now. :)

Thanks so much for the info and best of luck!

Thank you @WriterGirl that was very helpful. I have mine coming up in about 10days. Hope you get in.

By the way, i think in the they are interviewing the writers now in SCR/DIR dept. Directors would start from next week if I'm not mistaken. Then again, it could only be the writers posting here :/

Well no acceptance call from LMU - it looks like they do repeat the process two weeks later or they did on last years speadsheet. But right now I'm not going to hold my breath to get accepted at any of the schools I applied to this year. I'm a bit bummed and disappointed, but I have to admit I didn't understand the grads school game and I probably didn't play it very well this year. Maybe I'll be a late round admit and get lucky. Otherwise I'm just going to kick back, enjoy my workshop in NYC and step back from my freelance life to focus on writing.

Hello! I applied for the Directing concentration and had my interview yesterday, but I guess there's no particular 'pattern' they're following as such. Don't worry about it too much. :)

Good luck for your interview! Let me know if there's any info I can give to help calm you a little bit, haha! Cheers.

I'm waiting for LMU also. But, reading all these acceptances made on Tuesday, I am not optimistic. It's a small program, right? A fair number of people are already admitted, so I guess I better prepare for another rejection.

Maybe something better will come along and you will kick all of the ass!! (I haven't heard from any schools either.)
