Columbia SOA MFA Directing & Screenwriting - Fall 2024

Hello! Just now found out about this website, and wish I had found it earlier during the application and interview process. I've been accepted into the Screenwriting/Directing track. I'm wondering if any of those who have also been accepted are planning on attending. Obviously it would be nice to visit the city one more time, but the bigger value for me would be to meet my potential cohort. Especially considering that the last minute flights are expensive, and I'd also have to arrange accommodations. Who all is going?

I’m planning to go! I’ll be at the accepted students event on the 30th.

Hi! I also plan on attending the accepted students day on the 30th! And I plan on committing to Columbia also!

So excited I got into Columbia for screenwriting/directing! Got the call from Eric last week. It was my first choice, but wondering how folks are financing everything? I got a nice scholarship but the breakdown of tuitiion and living costs I'd still need $150,000+ loans.

Yeah, same for me. I honestly have no idea how I would make it work. Not helpful, but perhaps heartening to hear that you're not alone.

rip lol. i've heard of people asking for more money. still debating how or if i will but i feel like it can't hurt?
You should ask. I asked Eric and he said that he would advocate for me to get more money. He also said he has no control over it, but sometimes he can get more. I have a feeling anything extra will be in the $5000-$10,000 range, so it doesn't move the needle substantially. But hey. It did help that I've been admitted to UT, which is (for me, in state) basically free after the first year. So it was kind of a "let's talk about your other admissions" situation that gave me the easy in. But ask!

(sorry stream of conscious post, unedited, unread, too much going on, inbox at capacity, day job requiring too much attention).

Are you going to admitted students event this weekend? I'm going, we can try to say hi.

We're interviewing a Columbia professor soon if anyone has questions:

Hey all, I couldn't find a thread specifically for the Writing for Film & Television MFA so posting here. I was admitted and will be attending the event on the 30th. Hope some of the cohort will be there so we can chat. If not, hope to see you virtually next Monday night.
Feel free to create a thread for it too. :)

You may have to just check your portals. I never got an email, but my waitlist decision was posted on the portal. Thank God for this forum because I would've been waiting 40 days and 40 nights for an email that's probably not coming

I wonder how this whole decision tree breaks down. Nothing in my portal or email, but it seems some people have already gotten both waitlist and rejection emails, and some have not gotten emails but have those decisions already in their portal? What a quest lol.
Me too! Has this happened in previous years? Because I honestly have no idea what to think about any of it 😅 For better or worse, I’m just really hoping everyone receives a decision by tomorrow so we can all have some closure around the process
