Congrats on getting $$$$ from Chapman! That rocks and not to mention the validation from the Dept. head...that must feel good.

Did I misunderstand or did they only offer you 5,000?

$5000 for two years so $10,000 total. He said that was one of the "bigger" fellowships. Hmmm...

Plus he said there is no extra financial aid for the subsequent years in the dept. If you come in with a fellowship, great. If you don't, don't expect any financial aid other than loans. (again... ouch)

They also said that they've only admitted 1-2 directors so far, so if you haven't gotten a rejection yet, definately consider that a good thing.

I got into Chapman for the screenwriting MFA for this coming fall. I'm still waiting to hear from AFI- it's apparently coming next monday. Do you think I am in danger of losing my Chapman spot if I don't respond to their offer until next week? I really want to go to Chapman and doubt I got into AFI but I can't be sure.

CONGRATS Winter! AMAZING! I am so happy for you. I just sent Chapman my 'creative portfolio' so well see what happens.

My top choice is Columbia, but it would be nice knowing where I stand with Chapman. Its hard making a decision without all the possibilities in front of me.

Aw thanks Tima. You're such a sweetheart. BTW, even if you get in to Chapman would you consider turning down Columbia? Really after seeing the facilities at Chapman I hiighly doubt you will be disapointed. (It made the director in me cry a little I came in under screenwriting, but I did get the okay to take both sets of classes and use the equiptment on my own projects... so I'm good.)

Melsea- I don't think thats a problem. When I spoke to Professor Slowensky I let him know I can't make a decision until I hear back from UCLA (Especially if I get a diversity fellowship there). UCLA's director choices don't come out until the 24th, so I'm sure waiting until Monday will be fine.

You said UCLA won't decide until the 24th...where did you find that? And is it only for directors?

I got rejected at USC and havn't heard from UCLA or Chapman but I'm expecting rejection letters after reading about all the interviews they've already done... However, I did get into some of the less prestigous programs: UT-Austin, Boston U, and Loyola Marymount.

I've been (obsessively) reading the posts on this website for 2 months now and it seems there is a core group of people that really know their stuff (and really deserve the acceptances/interviews they've received) so I thought you guys would have some advice for me. I've ordered the "Film School Confidential" book hoping it would help me make a decision but I don't think it will arrive before my deadline of April 15th.

Does anyone have opinions on these programs? Is Loyola Marymount too religious for an athiest to attend? Is it worth being in LA even if the program isn't as good as UT-Austin? Has anyone heard of Boston's program? Opinions?

PS. Money is a BIG factor. (I was actually accepted to Columbia's NF writing program but I'm turning them down b/c I can't swing $41,000/yr tuition)

PPS. Thanks for all being as obsessive as I am on these boards. It's nice to hear informed opinions on film schools rather than having to rely on my mom's advice...

You should be proud of yourself! You got in to some pretty impressive schools. If I were in your shoes I would attend UT-Austin. I'm sure you know that it has a great program. The only down side I can think of is that it's a little harder to make the industry contacts going to school in Texas. As long as you get your work into some decent festivals and network you should be fine though...You will get a great education at UT...I think that's more important than being in LA.
