Anyone applying to MFA Screenwriting Programs for Fall 2018?

Hi film fellas,

I've got a question concerning the letters of recommendatio of the UCLA application. During my application I wasn't able to send lor requests. The portal stated out that I'll get an email, if the lor section is available again. So the deadline for the mfa in screenwriting closes in 4 days. Did anyone receive a note concerning the lors?

I also tried to reach the tft filmgrad team but no response.
Thanks for your help.

i actually got an email from UCLA about this today that i wanted to share, just in case no one here got it. it said that all applicants with a nov. 1 deadline— that means us— should send in the application and, sometime soon after the deadline, early nov. or so, you’ll reiceve information on their new LOR module and will be able to send the invites then. if, like me, you sent out your LOR invites before they shut it down, you’ll instead receive an email about the status of those LORs and what you need to do to complete them.

i called the tft department as well and they confirmed that it’s totally fine to send in the application now without your LORs— everyone is in the same boat, so no one is going to be penalized.

so basically, don’t sweat it!

gotta say, though, this was a terrible time to update the application. what were they thinking?

edit, because i hate to double post: just submitted my application to UCLA! i’m excited, but also very nervous. i can’t shake off the feeling that something in my application, however small, isn’t right, even though i must have checked it three times, maybe even more. oh well, too late now. i can hope they like my work!

Ugh this is maybe not the place but I need to vent (and my roommates are sick of my talking about my grad school apps). I'm a longtime lurker of these threads but I'm finally posting because I did suuuuchhhh a stupid thing while submitting my UCLA Screenwriting app. I forgot to include my name, title of the piece, and page number on each page of all my supplemental documents, which on the one hand seems like it's not such a big deal but on the other feels like it could easily disqualify my app since they get so many applicants and it's an easy thing they could use to point to my "lack of attention to detail." I'm just really angry at myself :(

Hi @Riki Tiki Tavi @Fro3hlich and
@lalowrites

I am an Indian student applying for MFA production/directing at TFT.I have only a day to mail my FTVDM application.

In the FTVDM application, there is a field saying "If non-US citizen, Visa type: " but it isn't specified if it is for current Visa holders or if it just asks us about the type of visa that we intend do get upon admission, as an international student.
Should I leave this field blank.Or should I specify as F1 Visa?!

There is something similar on the second or third page of the general graduate application too.

If any of u is a prospective international student and happens to know about this, let me know!

Thanks in advance,
Ram

@Fro3hlich thanks a lot brother...I'm working as fast as I could....And there is this thing about mentioning ur name and the title on every page of the supplemental material @lalowrites mentioned that. I might sound naive. But how do I do that.Do I make an image of the same in MS paint or something and then put it on every page or do I do it in word itself, by using up an entire line for the same. It's okay for my treatment. The problem is the no of words ur allowed in ur SOP is already low given the spacing and formatting constraints and I really would love some advice on this one.Thanks. :)

For the SOP, I think you can put it in your header?

I meant to reply to you a while ago but have been abroad with limited internet - I also got that notice when I was completing my application (despite having already sent requests for letters). Most recently, on Oct 27 I got an email from TFT (after the one that @Riki Tiki Tavi describes) with instructions to sign up to a separate system on Acceptd and send requests for LOR there, and that letters are due by Nov 13. Hope you've received that too.

Thanks @Kira I'll put it in the header. :)
I am in India and ahead of PST by 12.5 hours.I have sent the FTVDM form and transcript by mail.I hence assume I can work on my online application (for fine-tuning my supplemental material as I started really late considering the deadline) till 11:59 PST on Nov 1, and not worry about the Indian Standard Time. Am I right in doing so?!
Thanks and regards, Ram

Am I the only one who attempted to follow those direction for Acceptd and it did not work?
Please advice if you had luck

Another question for any that applied/got accepted to USC Screenwriting MFA - for the "most challenging moment" and "autobiographical essay", did anyone do single space? Or double space? Both of mine ended up longer than expected.

I believe mine were 1.5 spacing.

Hey guys! I'm new to Film School, but I've been reading a few forums the past few days and finally found one for this fall's class. Finally!

I'm applying to USC, NYU, Columbia, and U of Texas-Austin for screenwriting, and I have a couple questions if anyone who's been accepted could answer.

My first one is about the creative portfolio. I have a BA and will earn an MA in May 2018 in Film Studies. Is it acceptable to add research essays that were written and presented in class? I have added some short stories I've written for creative writing classes, my only screenplay, a film I made, and a film I acted in. Is this creative enough of a portfolio if my writing sample is strong? I used all of those within my portfolio for USC and wanted to get some insight before the other applications are due. I hope the inexperience won't be to my total demise.

I hope all of the Fall 2018 applicants are enjoying the process as much as I am, as stressful as it can be sometimes!

ugh! it feels like no matter what, something has to go wrong.

first ucla says they’ll ‘be in contact’ with all applicants on the status of their applications by mid december, so i wait, and i wait, and i wait, and it’s nearly christmas. i don’t know what that means. a good thing? nothing wrong and i’m all clear? or a bad thing? maybe i’ve been overlooked? i don’t want to be seen as a flake, but the temptation to call is so strong! has anyone else had contact?

now lmu’s site to submit my creative portfolio isn’t working for me. i can’t connect to it at all. that, i definitely have to call about, but there’s no point in calling until tuesday. i hope they’ll take an alternative, if we can’t figure it out.

why can’t anything ever be simple with grad applications, huh? geeze louise.

I haven't heard anything from UCLA either! Might send an email when they're back from the holidays. Good luck to you too!

I submitted to UCLA, USC, AFI, NYU, Boston College, and the University of Miami....

Has anyone heard a status from any of these schools?

Should we start making individual threads for our schools yet?
