Well,I've been taking some classes in Academy of Art college and I liked it to be honest. I've never heard of AAC until I came to San Francisco and at this point, I'm waiting to hear from NYU and SVA... HOwever, when it comes down to make a decision between SVA and AAC... I really think that I'll be stuck...

AAC is growing school and have great equipment for students, but I really don't have much information about SVA... I know there photography is great, but I never heard much about their film program (except brian singer went there..)

If anyone have good point to give me a clear idea between SVA and AAC's film program then it would be greatful for me to make a second move in case of not getting into NYU.. :)

And those of you who are waiting to hear from NYU... Best luck for ya all

I say stick with the place that has the most equipment. There's only some film theory that actually needs to be learned. A school with plenty a equipment typically means you won't have trouble checking it to film projects, which is a huge concern. I got to an Art Institute and the best thing I can say about it is how quickly we got on the equipment and its descent availiblity. I feel I've learned enough to make a feature length movie, all I need now is the time and commitment of others. If your current school's strong point is amount of equipment, I'd say stick with them, there's no need to go to school for two years before you get to touch a camera.

I'm currently an SVA student and I love it here. Great school. Unlike a university you don't have 2 years of bull. The first week I was here I was already putting my hands on a 16mm camera and working on projects. The film department is great. Lot's of equipment, great teachers, and a lot of guest speakers. I've seen Adan Quinn, and Sydney Lumet. My friend's screenwriting class has gone to 4 screenings, 8 mile, autofocus, truth about charlie, and phone booth, oh yeah they also met curtis hanson and joel schumacher. There's some great things to be learned here. You also get a normal education here (film isn't really normal to most) you can take a wide variety of classes from ethics to modern sciences to yoga to well pretty much anything. The film department here at SVA is great. My big concern with this school is the students who go here and the school seems more of a business rather than a school. Hope that helps. OH yeah if you're ever watching Notorious BIG's Juicy music video...my production teacher is the guy with the white long hair sitting with BIG and Puffy drinking some champagne! Just a fun fact. :)

i graduated from that school last year and their equipment cache is dope.

they used to start you off with s-vhs cameras and linear editing tools to help foster your confidence with the storytelling tools, then bounce you in with K3 16mm, working your way up to 35mm. They havew dollies, jibs, steadicams, shoulder brace, a whole plethora of some great lights, even now carry several types of 3c dv cams. they also have a guy you can schedule to help drive a van to your goodies to location.

They finished building two sound stages, one is dressed with two rooms a kitchen and livingroom. they also have a class that teaches aerial photography, and gets you on a chopper to film the bay area, teaches you about cost when planning those shots so you can be in the know when you're producer isn't.

editing suites up the wahzoo. several avid xpress, pro-avid suites, pro-tool suites with two sound proof rooms to do re-dubs. newly installed post digital tools like the latest in after effects and final cut pro, media 100. they also have a bunch of 16mm and 35 mm six-plate flat beds for film editing (whoah film?) splicers on hand for use, and bins to hang the strips while you chop at your film. there is an optical printer somewhere, but i think it wasn't available to students yet till they structured a class to teach 'em how to use it. in-house telicine - with professianal colorist to help get your offline film stock to match up with each other. (sometimes there's a little variation because of lighting differences and these colorists match it all up nice)

a whole network of computer animators in other departments to help spruce up your footage.

all in all very nice. the rotation of instructors hinders me saying whether or not you will get a good one. i had a whole bunch of great teachers and met alot of talented people that i keep in contact with.

good luck with your choice and hope you get into NYU, one thing AAC doesn't have yet is the juicy credentials that NYU has - but i think it's aiming for that.

" I won't show you tonight what requires many hours of progressive and
scientific exercises to even begin to make itself visable; besides I
would need space and air, and especially a head of steam -- which I
haven't got."

I know a guy who went to the same high school I did (in switzerland) and then graduated from SVA. His name is michael schaerer and his thesis film WARMTH won the student academy award in the alternative film categorie. I believe that was 2 years ago. However, before I left Switzerland to attend film school, I was chilling with him at a bar and he told me it does not really matter which school, as long as you have the opportunity to get some equipment and film;)

and yea, as soon as you hear from NYU, POST IT. I am going crazy!!!!
