DISCIPLES FILM AND TELEVISION INSTITUTE

What Makes The Disciples Film and Television

Institute Unique

Disciples Film and Television Institute is an exciting and innovative venture in practical film training based in one of the world’s leading film capitals. DIFTI pioneers professional-standard practical training across all key areas of film making, boasting a wealth of highly qualified mentors and a personal low tutor-to-student ratio.

The standard of education at DIFTI enables students to go out into the industry with the skills and experience necessary to find professional employment.

DIFTI is producing a new generation of filmmakers who meet the industry demand for individuals who are multi-skilled, collaborative and innovative. Our graduates have successfully entered the film and television industry with an unparalleled breadth of experience and specialized knowledge, proving they have a unique advantage over others who have chosen to focus their learning in only one area. Our commitment to teaching a wider range of practical skill includes working on both film and digital mediums, briefs that encourage students to find their creative voices and up-to-date training that enhances their chances of making a living and better still, of forging a successful career in this competitive field.

So why choose a relatively new film school that is taking on the giants of the AFRICA film school world? The answer is simple. The DIFTI punches above its weight and expects everyone who comes on the course to do the same.. It is about passion for film. It is about people. Film-making is one of the most team-intensive industries around. If you can't communicate, co-operate and lead then you are going to struggle in anything. You're certainly going to struggle in film-making where you need everyone around you.

As technology develops so do our courses however the language and grammar of film making will always remain the same. We incorporate digital elements in all of our training but remain geared around working with professional 16mm film to ensure experience gained by our students is as close to the professional film making world as possible. Working primarily on 16mm film gives students a rare discipline and a higher quality of training that prepares them to work effectively and creatively within other mediums including digital technology.

Realistically, a paper qualification isn’t enough to get a foot on the ladder in the creative industries. Contacts and practical, tailored career advice is key and so, that’s what we provide. We are unique in being able to offer all of our students a complimentary membership to DIFTI FILM MAKERS CLUB, our emerging filmmakers' club with access to networking events and an exclusive jobs list. The activities of the club aim to equip members with a range of knowledge, contacts, production support and discounted equipment and facilities hire, to help them make independent films as well as find work or work placements during our courses and long after they leave us.

Despite market forces, we continue to maintain our founding principle of affordable film training for all that is of a high standard and relevant to today’s industry. We also support cultural and social diversity with 50% of our intake comprising of international students from all over the world with diverse social backgrounds. As a registered non-profit trust, we offer a higher level of accountability. All course fees go into the courses and basic running expenses of the school, eliminating hidden costs. All equipment, facilities and materials are provided for all workshops, exercises and short films and are included in the tuition fees.

DIFTI is no quick-fix academy. We are intimate film school, highly passionate about film and our students. As such, we continue to maintain a policy of small intakes on all courses, preserving a productive tutor to student ratio that allows for applied group sessions and one-to-one mentoring nurturing individual talent. Staff and tutors take pride in the uniquely intimate, intensive and creative energy within the school, facilitating a production house for innovation, professional development and excellence.

Disciples Film and Television Institute - a film school that gets results!

It's undoubtedly a slick operation, filled with an infectious energy. It is almost as if, while other film schools churn out graduating class after graduating class with bored ease this youthful establishment is still excited to be home to movie makers.
