NFTS - Directing Fiction Applications 2025

Just had the interview! It took full 50 minutes, there were 4 people. One woman seemed very strict and concentrated, she was a director and had extremely tricky questions which I felt most nervous about. Didn't answer those brilliantly (probably over critising myself). Others were beyond friendly, had interesting questions about my movie, the process of making it, working on music, working with actors etc. Also asked about the movie treatment that I wrote when applying, about Terrance Malik who I mentioned in the questionnaire, about deeper meanings in my work, about how I managed the difficulties that occurred during the shooting period, my previous experience, working with writers, etc.

Overall, I believe, it went well, just not happy about how I answered several questions from one of the women :))

I am sure you did great! I always feel the same when I get asked a tough question, that I didn't give my best answer, but I am always told after it was a good answer for the nature of the question and in the moment. Best of luck man! Got mine tomorrow.

Can I ask what sort of questions this director asked you? I'm curious now what sort of hard questions there might be ahahah

Sure. Looking back now I don't find them that hard, it's just me nerves and the mess I had in my head! She asked about my theatre background and how I feel the difference between theater/cinematic languages. It's the way she put the question together that I got stick with, there was something about the lack of understanding cinematic language that I might or might not have.

I did my interview, I think it mostly went well, same deal with a few more important specific questions I don't think I gave clear answers on. Anyway, thought people might want to know they told me they are doing 3 weeks of interviews and just started, so idk maybe more people will be getting invites soon if you haven't already. They also told me they're interviewing 40 ppl total.

Congrats about everything went well! be water my friend! Can I ask about the one-hour test you guys mentioned before, what is the test about? It seems like a very innovative way in film school application.

Congrats to everyone who got interviews and didn't give up if you haven't.

It would be a huge help to everyone applying if you could log your application in our database if you haven't yet. It's a great way for applicants to keep track of dates and everything else.

Good luck everyone!

Yay it's fixed. Don't forget to log your applications! It's a huge help to everyone and it's really just logging dates and other info. It's not uploading materials unless you want to.

Thank you! And sorry just saw this, essentially they give you a bunch of images (photos and paintings) and you have an hour to come up with a story based on one image or describe your reaction to one of the images, which you then pitch to the panel.
