SVA- School of Visual Arts

My girlfriend is going to apply here and she was showing me the film section, it didn't look bad at all. A friend who is a director is also applying there, so I am thinking I should apply there along with NYU, but I dont want to waste my time on something I know nothing about, so I was wondering if anybody here at the forums knows anything about SVA in NY. Thanks in advance.

Is it possible to achieve a degree in SVA? Anybody else know anything about this school? Thank you for the info David. Much apreciated.

Anyone know how the film program compares to NYU? If its near or on par, I have a much better chance of getting accepted here then there. Info on how it compares to NYU, as well as other film schools (UCLA, USC, Chapmann)would be much apreciated.

Also, since philosophy is my prime interest other then film, if anyone knows any information as to how well their philosophy classes are put together that would be greatly apreciated. I am looking through the catalog right now and it seems as if I would be quite satisified.

Undergrad is your first 4 years of college and Grad is if you decide to go back to school after that, it's possible to go to SVA an average film school for undergrad and then when you graduate go to a great grad program like NYU or AFI.

Interesting.. Do the chances increase of going to a Graduate program such as NYU after attending a fairly respected film school? (which is what I gather of SVA)

Absolutely not. It's pretty much looked down upon to do a BFA and and MFA in film. Honestly, what's the point?

There is just one person in my class that has a degree in film, and it wasn't from NYU.

If you decide to do an undergrad degree in film (which is a bad idea, I think), do not go to grad school.
