Any advice for a newbie interested in Documentary? BA or MFA?

Hey all!

I am about to graduate undergrad with a major in Environmental Science and a minor in Political Science, but would love to apply that to film. I am currently working on an environmental justice documentary on the western slope of Colorado, but want to take that to the next level with formal education. Should I be investigating graduate programs or go for another undergrad major? Are there any institutions with environmentally-focused documentary programs? I have next to no knowledge on the whole process, so I thought one of you wonderful folks would be able to provide some guidance. May thanks!

I don't see a point to get another undergrad degree. Go for the MFA.

You can use our film school database to find schools that have documentary programs as well.

On mobile you sort and filter with the funnel icon in top right. On desktop you sort with the left side bar.

Hey, I'm a current MFA student at Loyola Marymount and a documentary filmmaker. I'd be happy to answer any questions you might have about grad programs/documentary. Also, this Montana program may be worth looking into: MFA in Science & Natural History Filmmaking (SNHF) - Science & Natural History Filmmaking | Montana State University
I know someone who attended and was very happy with the program.
