Should I EDII to NYU?

Hi everyone!

I'm a high school senior applying to film school for the Fall 2026 semester. I'm applying to 9 schools for a major in Film Production: Columbia College Chicago, DePaul, Emerson, SVA, LMU, Chapman, USC, Fordham, and NYU. I've heard back from 6 so far, and have been accepted to all of them (Columbia, DePaul, Emerson, SVA, LMU, Fordham).

For me, it's really down to USC, NYU, and LMU, so it's between LA and NYC. I've recently decided that I fully want to go to New York, and if I get into both USC and NYU, I would choose NYU. Although I don't think I would go to NYC for Fordham or SVA, given that I've already been accepted into LMU.

I'm currently weighing whether to EDII to NYU. The main drawback for me is the binding financial aspect, and my parents suggest that I should apply for RD and wait to compare the financials between my top choices. Another part may be because they really want me to stay in-state (I'm from California), but honestly, I'm nervous about my chances if I go in RD. Does anyone know whether EDII would make a huge difference in being accepted to Tisch?

I also know that I'm incredibly privileged financially to even be considering ED and any of these schools. I'm so lucky to be able to pursue what I love to do. I understand my parents' concerns with the binding tuition. I think I'm just anxious about that teeny tiny acceptance rate for Tisch.

If anyone could provide insight or advice, I would really appreciate it! EDII deadline is January 1, RD is 5.

This is the biggie in my opinion. Verify with financial aid that you'll be able to afford it without too many loans. Don't want to get locked in to a situation where you're saddled with too much debt.

As a parent of a kid who's also applying to college (not film school) I can understand your parents concerns re being locked in to a school with a poor financial offer.

Those all sound like great schools though.

From what I've read you do have a higher chance of being admitted to early decision in general (not specifically for NYU). But being able to compare financials would be a prudent choice.

Getting admitted to LMU is great though..congrats! :)

Be sure to log your applications in our database when you get a moment. It's very helpful to people.

Good luck!
