A book about teaching cinematography

Hello everyone,

For those who missed this interview for FilmSchool.org, you can read a bit about who I am and what I do.
This post is about a book on the subject of teaching cinematography, and if you are a cinematography student, applicant or alumnus - this one is for you.

After teaching cinematography for well over a decade, and at film schools ranging from AFI and Columbia to the City College of New York and Sacred Heart University, it has become clear to me that there is a big gap in how this profession is being taught. Teaching Cinematography will be a book for educators and those who want to teach themselves. It will not be a technical book, instead focusing on the teaching and practicing. I've interviewed deparment heads and cinematography teachers at most of the leading film schools internationally, and now I am looking to speak with active students, applicants and also alumni who graduated in the past 5 years. If you are willing to speak on the record, answering questions about your experience at film school, your expectations before and your life after, then please reach out by sending an email to teachingcinematography@latentimages.com. Please indicate your location and the film school you attended (or attend, or applied to). I'm not looking for a large group, but instead going to try to create a small and diverse group. We'd conduct the interview over Zoom in a conversation that would be recorded and transcribed, and you'd have a chance to see the edited text to make any changes before it is published. As this is an academic book, none of the people who are interviewed are compensated, so please take this into account. The goal is to improve teaching cinematography, and I hope to find some people who would be willing to lend their time and thoughts for this cause.

Replies to this thread will not be quoted in the book, only interviews.

Thank you!
