2016 Interviews- Acceptances- Rejections (3 Viewers)

Everyone who got waitlisted by USC, congrats, I think that's an excellent outcome!
I just have a question, were you interviewed prior?
Thanks man. For me it's a no, I was not interviewed. I was however previously waitlisted.

I just got an email from NYU! I am in!! I am so overwhelmed and excited!
Congratulations! What program are you applying? I had my interview last Thursday with NYU, for Filmmaking. But it seems they may give out notices at different time for different programs?

I am doing the dramatic writing program. It was an informal email saying more information and my formal acceptance would come shortly after the 11th. So that maybe when they send them all out? I do not know though. It is a different program. My email came a week after my interview though. So hopefully you hear soon! Good luck!

I received an email 5 hours ago that said to check you.usc.edu to see the admission decision. When I visit the site, there's now a link that says Decision Notification in the mailbox. However, when I click it, it brings up a blank page. Is this happening to anyone else? I made sure Adobe Reader was installed, and I checked Chrome, Firefox, IE, and Edge.

Okay, so I just called admissions and they said that once you get an email notifying that a decision letter is available, it takes a couple of days for the decision to reflect in the portal (you.usc.edu). That's odd because there haven't been any reports of a lag between the email and the decision's appearance in the portal. Hmm... it seems it's not looking good for me!

I decided to not get stressed about it anymore. Keep hope alive, but low expectations. My applications couldn't have been too shady when both Columbia and AFI asked for an interview, so we'll see, I guess (even tho USC got different materials)...

Thank you so much. Hope to get in!

Ok, I just finished my interview with AFI, and it was a lovely and relaxed conversation somewhere between 15-20 mins long. They mostly asked about what my interests are, what kind of shows and movies I like, what I'm currently doing/writing, and they explained more in detail how their program works. That was about it. They asked about finances, but they said when they really want a certain student they'll find a way to make it work.

Also, like someone had reported before, they said final notifications of decisions will go out on April 4th, so there you go :)

I think it went well, but I tend to get very nervous, so *fingers crossed*

I want to tell everyone who didn't make it into USC this time around, keep pushing if that's the program for you. I was rejected, then waitlisted and I almost didn't try again until the exact weekend to reapply for the third time. I'm still waitlisted this fall with a spot in spring. I wish you all the best with your other apps.

Second:
I just received an email from AFI about financial aid, did anyone else receive this? I did not get this notification the first time I applied, but I've also not been contacted for an interview. Just wondering is this something that all the AFI applicants recieved today?

I just got admitted to Chapman! I haven't gotten an official letter/email or financial details, but I got my login info and the system says admitted, plus I have an option to pay a deposit or "decline" :)

@Nic L. Kelly- I got that email about a month ago. I just got called on Monday March 7th for an interview. I'm doing screenwriting. Hope this helps.

Yay, congratulations!

Haha, I guess we're both in the same boat as of now. What's your first choice?

Thank you! Congrats to you too! :)

To be honest I always saw myself as a Troyan, but so far I've heard only crickets from USC... This is my first acceptance, but both AFI and Columbia showed interest and their programs are amazing, so I'll have to wait and see where I stand with them before I can make an informed decision...

Chapman seems great, so I'll try to get in touch with current/previous students and see what they have to say. Other than that, finances will sure play a big role in my decision, since unfortunately I'm not "independently whealty" (as they say), so any school that offers me any kind of financial help wins extra brownie points in my book :p

I did talk to one of my seniors who's currently studying Cinematography at Chapman. He just finished his freshman year, and is already working on multiple productions in the LA County. The technical department + the infrastructure at Chapman is something he really praises, but somehow this one gripe that he has with the program is 'not having great stories', which is weird. So in my mind, Chapman program has this insane 'technically proficient' image in my head right now. But they get to learn from really legendary people. (The guy who gaffed on The Godfather teaches there)

Didn't really apply to a lot of West Coast Schools, cause I feel more 'at home' with the East Coast sensibility. For me, Columbia is the first preference cause it really focuses on the craft of storytelling. Plus I feel at this point I'd rather improve my writing & direction as compared to editing.

And of course, as an international applicant, even I open every mail with a not-so-excited face cause I know that not getting a scholarship would diminish all my chances of attending Grad school in the US. So it's pretty confusing somehow.

Let's see what future has stored in for us, cause I'm sure everyone's worked hard on their applications. I guess the rest is all a matter of chance and luck.
