Columbia SOA MFA Directing & Screenwriting Fall 2025

Wait...listed
Who all got accepted then?!
Has this Trump situation reduced their seats even further?
Congrats on being wait-listed! Don't forget to edit and update your application. Be sure to check "save as update" when saving.

I received an email from waitlist yesterday. I really want to know how many students were admitted from wl in previous years.
Those stats from applications logged on our site can be found on this page:

Rejected sadly.

I'm curious to hear if anyone who got accepted had applied before and whether they re-applied with a completely new materials.

Congrats to all admitted, and good luck to all waitlisted!
I am going to forfeit my waitlist position at Columbia SOA since I am 90% sure I am going to attend USC SCA.
Anyways, this has been really helpful, and I appreciate everybody's input about the whole process!
By the way, other than writing/directing (of course, that's why we are all here), I am also a trained music composer with a degree from Berklee.
I'd like to connect. If you need anything music- and/or sound-related (mostly in post). DM me!
Pro bono is the student/indie filmmaking way, baby!
Cheers!

Hey all, I just turned down my spot at Columbia (going to NYU instead) so I hope that one of you on the waitlist gets some good news soon!

Best of luck to everyone, and hope to meet some of you Columbia students when in New York next year!

I am also curious about this. I accepted my offer at Columbia, so I wanted to see who else did the same. It would be good to connect.
There's a private thread here:

Late follow up here, but I also turned down my offer of admission. It was a tough decision. Good luck to those who were waitlisted!
Did you decide to go elsewhere? Please don't forget to log your applications on our site.

Where did you decide to go?
I actually decided to rethink whether an MFA track is the direction I would like to take professionally and artistically. I'm reevaluating my relationship with art, and work, and am considering the implications of massive financial burden on each.

I'm in the process of interviewing for an MFT track counseling psychology masters with an emphasis on somatic modalities, which to me is a complementary area of interest that has a lot of overlap with the aspects of filmmaking that I love, involving the sensorial expression/experiencing of emotionality, intellectual discovery, and creative exploration of the thematic elements of the "human experience".
