Columbia Film School MFA Applicants 2026 (1 Viewer)

i feel like this wait has been kind of ridiculous at this point. like what on earth could they still possibly deciding? everyone else has sent out decisions weeks ago... they really are waiting for the final hour jfc
Yeah I agree. Internally they might have a million issues they are trying to figure out, but in general they should've organized this decision announcement a lot better. Even if there was a delay, they should send a communication to us notifying us of the delay(regardless of whatever decision it maybe). Even a generic notification would've been appreciated a lot, instead of us pestering them for updates frequently.

General question: Do we own the intellectual property of the Dramatic writing sample and of the feature film treatment? I wanted to hopefully make the dramatic writing sample and the feature film. Just wondering cause when we submitted it said that Columbia owns the materials but I thought that meant they keep a record of the submission.
I'm not a lawyer but there is no way that they own your creative ideas for a submission. I will absolutely be making films from both of my submission materials.

You got a rejection for s@d?
For Writing for Film/TV, but I also selected to be considered for S&D when I did my app. To be honest, after reading how everyone else’s interviews went, I felt like my interviewers weren’t great. The only questions they asked me are what film and series have sparked to me lately and what I’m writing/working on currently. They didn’t even bother to ask me about my submission materials, why Columbia, why I’m passionate about the program and writing, etc. I feel like I had to insert answers because it seemed like they didn’t care to ask additional questions, yet my interview was still 30 minutes of mostly me just talking. Regardless, I sent a thoughtful thank you note as a follow up. Kinda a red flag from that point on so I’m not too entirely surprised that it was a no lol. But I’m a firm believer in that everything happens for a reason! I received a hefty scholarship from LMU (I’m based in LA), and when I interviewed with them, the vibe was completely different and so positive. I intend to enroll this fall!

Congrats! Let us know how it goes and don't forget to log your applications to help people next year. :)

Yeah it’s pretty shocking. They’ve said we’d hear by today but I’m doubtful at this point
