2016 Interviews- Acceptances- Rejections (1 Viewer)

@Boethius I'm going to guess no. Even though applicant amounts might be slightly lower than previous years they are still high and the intake is going to be pretty much the same. The application pool just a tad smaller.

I'd also want to point out that not everyone finds this forum and not all forumers have typed in their info (they SHOULD!). Also I think when this all started the number on the previous years sheet was around 250 so might be that someone has misplaced their info as well. That being said the economic climate is bound to have taken its toll.

Congrats @loho!! I guess normal business hours don't apply here...LOL! That frees me up to fret and panic all night, all weekend... ;)

seriously. I'm starting to feel like the only one who hasn't heard from Columbia for an interview invite yet! Guess I'll crack down on finishing up my FAFSA best as I can (as predicted, I don't have all my tax information yet, pesky freelancing) and turning in their Financial Need Assessment.

Question for those of you who have gotten your interview invites - have you submitted that paperwork yet?

I did submit a FAFSA, but I haven't completed the Columbia Financial Aid application yet. I had to estimate what my taxes were going to be, selecting the "Will File" option so I can amend it later. Self-employment taxes bite.

They're a pain the the ass right? I'm pretty sure I got all my W2s on time (for the first time ever, unless I"m forgetting a payroll company) but I haven't gotten a single 1099 form yet for 2015. Guess I need to dig through my invoices to finish estimating for my FAFSA. But like I said, at least it'll be a good distraction instead of torturing myself with self-doubt and second guesses.

@IndecisiveElle I submitted my FASFA and the financial aid application about a week after receiving my interview invite. No worries! Columbia's screenwriting/directing program admits a much larger class than the producing program. They're more than likely sending invites out in waves. :)

Speaking of interviews, I wish I could get a handle on how UCLA and USC are sending out their invites. They seem to be doing it pretty sporadically this year. That being said...Congrats to @Boethius for scoring an interview with UCLA!

Just got an interview invite from UCLA for directing program! Yet to choose from the dates options given.

Guess someone has already done with the UCLA interview. Do share your experience!!

Hi all! This has been a crazy week hearing back from almost all the schools I applied to! I applied for directing programs and have been accepted to UT Austin, and was asked to interview at CalArts, Columbia, and UCLA. NYU is the only school I haven't heard from! Is there a spreadsheet for this year or is that one not up yet?

Hi everyone. I just found these forums. I received an email this morning from UCLA inviting me to interview for the directing program. I also applied to USC, NYU, and Columbia but I haven't heard from any of them yet.

I'm currently trying to decide whether to interview via Skype or in-person. I live in the Midwest, so it would be somewhat expensive for me to travel to LA. But I'm wondering if a Skype interview would harm my chances of being accepted. Any advice?

PS: Looking at the spreadsheet is making me nervous that I've only heard from one school...

oh, and I did send in the FAFSA with rough random guesses since all my taxes have been paid abroad. Columbia financial assesment application is on my to-do list for tomorrow.

@Megan Welcome to the forum!
Don't get too nervous just yet. As can be seen on last years spreadsheet, all invites rarely go out all at once. The schools have quite a few of applications to sort through!

It was less painful than I'd feared. I just finished it up. Lots of estimates but at the end is a large text box for any additional information they should be considering so I mentioned that I work freelance in the industry and that changing cities and committing myself to an MFA program would affect my income pretty dramatically. Not that I made any money in 2015 for them to consider anyway haha. I'm doing more research on LMU and Northwestern's aid and scholarships now.

Congrats everyone who has gotten an invitation. UCLA is making me crazy. It looks like last year, screenwriting invites went out one day and rejections the next. Definitely NOT the case this year! I don't know WHAT to do with myself haha.

Torture yourself like I am! Duh! What else would you do with yourself? Enjoy the weekend? pfft.

I'm way ahead of you! I'm going through my mind, did I forget to click a button? Did I leave something out of my packet? Did I send it to the wrong place? Did I misevaluate the level of my work leading me down a path of life choices I was utterly unsuited for and now I've painted myself into a corner that I'm totally unequipped to get myself out of???????

I think I'll play video games today

@Amanda I just noticed we applied to the same program! Yay! I thought I was the only one on the forum this year that applied for WPTV rather than the screenwriting program at LMU. :) It has a high acceptance rate compared to the other programs I applied for, I imagine because it's more specialized. It's also well rounded between men and women. Good luck!

I saw that, too! I was discussing the WPTV program with some industry friends, and we came up with the same thought regarding the reason behind the acceptance rate (as well as the smaller number of applicants) ... I'm keeping my fingers crossed for both of us!

Do you guys know if USC always interviews applicants or if they admit some without interviews? I swear during one of the webinars they said that they don't do interviews, but looking at the spreadsheet from last year, it looks like they interviewed some people.

@Megan Interviews have happened already this year as well - and as you stated the spreadsheet of last year actually shows that only three writers and one film production student have marked getting in without an interview. I guess it is safe to say the majority are interviewed. Though it would be cool to stress not getting an interview just to hear later on you got in without one ;) Here's for daydreaming!

It's the only school I applied to that doesn't seem to do interviews at all, waiting to hear a straight decision rather than the interview invites is rough. Totally out of our hands the second we hit submit on our creative materials, but I'm still definitely crossing anything that won't make me trip too!
It would be awesome to be in the small program with another female from this board!

@Paul J. do we have any member data from before 2015? I'm struggling to find more of a timeline for how Northwestern notifies! I saw something from another forum that they interview, but can't seem to find it again. I think there's only 3 of us who applied there this year, but I'd love to have more intel on their process at this point if we have it somewhere :)
