Calarats 2010

Psst -- Not to go off topic, but it IS possible to get a fellowship if you apply to Chapman by the late deadline. It happened for notroberttowne, it can happen for YOU!

Grats, Karissa.

And that's great news, brittak. I was merely going off of what Chapman says on their web-site. But if they break their own rules people should definitely know about it!

Yes.... The Dear Hunter... NRT and several others have gotten aid even though the applied for the regular deadline.

film and video peeps,

check your mails! I live on the east coast, and i just received the small colorful package today! the mail was postmarked 10th march. :)

akriti you know you can always annoy them by calling and beg :) i did that, though less than a hr later, i found the package in my mail box. it appears that they can tell you thru the phone, only after the decision letters are signed by the dean.

only calarts. Before this, I have worked with almost every camera format include red and 35mm, so i felt going to standard "industry" school will be too repetitive for me. Calarts appeals to me becos of the freedom, so i can skip all the technical classes and focus on new areas like animation and film art. what about you, akriti?

I've applied to NYU (second round - rejected), USC (interviewed - rejected) & Northwestern (crickets) along with CalArts.

I've got lesser experience than you - I'm finishing undergrad in a month (in political science) and I've done a short film on my own along with some other collaborative student projects.
I too like the more artsy approach that CalArts takes. Hopefully I get to go there and have a chance to explore and experiment. Although given how my other applications have gone I'm not gonna get my hopes high.

akriti, sorry to hear about nyu and usc, I'm sure things will turn out fine with calarts! as long as you like their artsy approach (make it damn clear in your artist statement!!), they will open the doors to you. hang in there :)

the wait continues here also-

I'd be interested to see what films or reels you all submitted to calarts. I'm very confused what they're looking for-

What are you applying for?? I applied for directing MFA.

And yes I would love to see your portfolios too, maybe I would be impressed with your work... must likely.

i applied for the BFA program. (i know im posting on the graduate, just curious to see)
and along with a pretty strange idea for a movie, I sent this: LINK

Great job on your film Jason, it's quite impressive. Very atmospheric, trenchant and concise. It's the kind of film many students set out to shoot... and then drop the ball at the end.

Also, congratulations on your acceptance. I'm sure Cal arts will be a great fit for you.
