Florida State 2009

Still waiting for my call. At this point, I just want to know either way because not knowing is pretty rough. Anyone know any more about how many left they have to call? I was told this week would hear something, but nothing yet.

Hey elcineman,

Yes, Carla from the film program was the one who called me so I assume it's the film school and not just FSU. But this was for the graduate program. I don't know how the undergrad program works.

I got a call from Carla today, too, and am accepted into FSU's Writing for the Stage and Screen. I'm also accepted at USC's screenwriting MFA, and I'm visiting there this weekend, and then I'll have myself a decision to make...

Since it had been 3-4 weeks since the interview and that was the time frame they'd given to hear some news, I called Carla today. She said decisions for the MFA Screenwriting program would be mailed next week.

But, since you've already heard from her and she didn't say anything on the phone to me today (she had taken my name to check), I'm guessing I've either been rejected or waitlisted. Bummer. I guess I'll know for sure next week.

Yo Samer!

This is Mike from PHL. Met during our interviews - kindred, glinty eyed, spirits that we are! Figured I'd find you here sooner or later.

Sorry to see you've received no notification yet. Nor have I. No worries my man. They saw FSU pumping in your veins brother.

Did you apply elsewhere?

Thanks wicket, do you have the names of apartment complexes or are most of the apartments under independent ownership? Sorry just not very familiar with the Tallahassee area. I appreciate the quick help though, I'll definitely keep it in mind. I had heard about some on-campus living, would you recommend that or nay?

Thanks Norsewriter, and goodluck! Have you heard anything yet?

I was starting to think, despite an interview I felt very good about, that they were done making calls and I was rejected.

Carla called me last night to congratulate me.

For all those still holding out, don't lose hope. She told me they actually do make calls until the 12th, you may yet be in.

AJ, there are places other than in the direction I gave you, but the majority of them will be bad complexes, in bad areas, or both. The only exception I can think of is the newer area called Southwood, which is...south. It's near Capital Circle/Blairstone I think, but it'll be a more expensive area. I live in a gigantic two bedroom apartment that was bigger than my sister's house back home in California (before she moved) and only pay 790. My complex is called Meridian Place, on Meridian Rd, just east of Monroe.

On campus might be okay I suppose, just remember that Tallahassee is nothing but a college/government town, and a partying one at that. Living amongst a bunch of undergrads is going to be annoying. If it doesn't bother you than go for it - me, the combination of Tallahassee AND hoards of 18 and 19 year olds would spell the end.

I can tell you not to even consider The Commons, or the place next door to them (operated by the same douchebags). It used to be called The Village, but now it's Seminole something or other. My GF stuck me in a sublet for the summer at the Commons before I moved here while I was still in college at Cal State Fullerton. Worst experience of my life. I could write pages on it - but I've gone on far too long as it is. Just look The Commons up on one of those apartment rating websites. The stories are ridiculous and unbelievable - but they're true. They're all true.

Carla has been pressuring me to make a decision. I was accepted at USC, too, and just visited this past weekend. I'd told her I'd call her with a decision on Monday, which I didn't, because obviously it's a big decision, and she informed me yesterday that if I didn't reach her by the end of the day, they'd offer my spot to someone else.

Apparently this was just a bluff to get me to contact her, because I sent an e-mail when I got her message after the office closed, and she called me again today to confirm if I need more time to make my decision or was wanting to withdraw.

This is for the writing program... so they're definitely still waiting to hear from people before their class is full.

Yeah, there was a bit of pressure to accept before hearing from other programs. I guess you could always accept and change your mind later. At least there's no $1000 non-refundable deposit....

I think a lot of people do that because I've heard people being picked up from the waiting list like two weeks out before the Fall semester started.

Thanks again wicket, You are a lifesaver. I'm heading up Monday to check out some places. Good luck to everybody who's still waiting and congrats to everyone who was accepted.

Hey Mike!!!! hows everything going for you. Ive applied to other places but FSU seems to be my first choice after the interview.

Anyone know if a actual letter in the mail would be a rejection or maybe a wait list?

I also talked to Carla today and was wondering if she already knew if i was accepted or not. Does she get notification the day of the call or does she know it already?

Thanks everyone

Good luck to everyone

and again
hope for the best expect the worst
