NYU MFA Film Fall 2025

Hey all! Does anyone know when decisions are announced? Has anyone heard anything?
This link has the range of decision dates logged in our database. Be sure to log yours if you haven't yet.

2021 had a bunch more applications logged. I think there were also less required fields then. But people complained that not enough info was being added so I made some required. 🤷‍♂️

Be sure to log your applications so we can keep improving the data.

hi all :) only found this forum last week, but happy to share that i received a voicemail from julia about an hour ago with a place offer. not sure i can 100% accept it yet (being an intl. student there's a lot of bells and whistles to sort out), but looking forward to hopefully seeing some of you this autumn!

hi! i got the call from julia at 11:42 am est. i interviewed in person on feb 25 with julia, yemane and mia. congrats to everyone! i actually wrote the questions they asked me down after my interview out of anxiety, so im going to share them for future applicants.
  • what i was proud of and what i would change about my visual submission
  • specific question about my film
  • why i want to go back to film school after a short time (i just graduated undergrad film in may 2024)
  • a film i wish i made and a film i was disappointed in
  • how was my visual submission is different than the film i was disappointed in? (the film i hated is the same genre as the film i made)
  • describe a moment u felt free then imagine the last scene of a film where a character goes through that (they originally asked me what i regretted but my answer was too vulnerable so free hack: to get a new prompt, have too sad of an answer lol /j)
  • how would u feel if we assigned a crew to u? (i make films solely within my community)
  • any questions for us?

i hope this helps! good luck to everyone now and in the future.

i’m not international! i’m based in brooklyn and i got a phone call (i think everyone who is accepted will, but it might be on different days if she’s the only one calling not sure) i think she said we’re getting emails from courtney early this week. can’t remember the exact date because i was in shock.

Awesome! Thanks for sharing!

Thank you, friend. I did get an interview. It went great till the end, I messed up in the end I guess...

But, honestly, I think I should really face the reality lol! Would love to be mistaken, yet I'm 100% it's a rejection.

Has anyone heard of Brooklyn College MFA? I got into Brooklyn. I really want to go to Tisch and like NYC a lot, but since I got rejected and Brooklyn seems to be a lesser version of Tisch, I'm wondering if I should attend Brooklyn instead. I'm also waiting to hear back from CalArts (Film and Video MFA), Chapman (Directing), and LMU (Directing). The other school I got into is SAIC.

It's not as good as NYU and I think it's not worth attending an above-average film school, as it's a big decision in every sense. Same for Dodge and LMU. If I were you, I would try NYU next year.

What about Calarts? I was thinking what if I still couldn't get into NYU next year so it'd be a waste of time.
