Producer Program Applicants 2010

Hey all,

Applied to the Stark Program and the NYU MBA/MFA program, school major and work experience is in finance gpa is 3.85 and 670 on the gmat. graduating this semester. I dont have any experience working in film aside from putting together a short for the NYU program.

Was wondering if anyone can gauge my chances of actually being accepted without the film experience? Should i retake the gmat for NYU-stern?

and also any thoughts about which program to choose if magically accepted into both?

Best of luck to all that applied.

hey datrada,
I applied to both those programs also. Similar background - I was a finance major in school, but I graduated a few years back and had been working as an analyst for a hedge fund until I left earlier this year to pursue film.

Can't really say what your chances of getting in without experience are, but at least for Stark, when I went out to meet with them, they really stressed that you didn't need to have film/tv experience to be accepted. NYU I think there will be more emphasis on experience given that you are evaluated against all production applicants, not just the producer applicants. But again, the major selection criteria there is the creative portfolio, so if you put together something that really impresses them, it probably helps more than having work experience in film. As far as Stern is concerned, I think your GMAT is good, but if you thought you could get above 700 by retaking it, then I would say do it. Your bigger hurdle there is probably work experience since you are just graduating now.

Kudos for putting together a short for NYU. It was a late decision for me to apply, so I only had time to put together a portfolio of still photographs, which probably doesn't increase my chances.

Good luck!

Hadn't seen this thread! Nice. Just posting to encourage other aspiring producers to come here.
How's everyone doing with waiting, interviews and back to waiting?
I am from Barcelona (Spain) but based in NY. I have three years experience in film & TV development. Applied to NYU (Stern/Kanbar), Peter Stark, UCLA PP, Chapman and AFI. So far, have had interview at Kanbar (didn't go so well) and have been invited by Stern, AFI and UCLA.
Tomorrow's THE STARK DAY - not sure if I want it to come along. How about you guys?

Juli, I applied to AFI and Stark. Got the callback interview from AFI, waiting to hear from Stark. I heard rumblings on the USC 2010 forum that they are pushing back their notification date and maybe we won't hear tomorrow, but I certainly hope that's not true.

Yep, it looks like the Stark notification date won't be tomorrow. They got twice as many apps as usual, and apparently we will be hearing sometime in the next week or two.

Juli,

Other applicants called the Stark office about the notifications that were supposedly done tomorrow. Turns out they have a whopping amount of applications this year. 1:15 compare to last year's 1:8, which also means that the acceptance rate is about 6.6% this year.

Hey Hannah, I got the interview call from AFI too, when is yours?

Hi All,

Re: Stark only

Noting the late February angst waiting for the call on Feb 23rd Feb.

This year, with only 1 in 15 to be selected ... the only ones unconcerned will be those that did their homework.

Last year's thread (linked as in my previous post .. ignored amidst the busy chatter) shows that offer calls only started in early March. With so little known about readily available information ...or another one ... how many of the ~400 researched the school before lobbing their applications to USC, (and then multiple other producer schools) when it's easy to establish Starkies only ever wanted to go to Stark.

The reality is, 375 of you just won't get in.

Remain positive oh magic ~25.

I just had my interview with UCLA. I am so relieved now!!! I am still waiting for a call from AFI, but I guess I might as well wait for it until the end of time...

Had my interview with UCLA yesterday too (Skype). Now, back to waiting.
Good luck to all, I hope we will all be posting good news a couple weeks from now.

To bring some life to this forum - USC's Stark program has been calling accepted people today!

I got a call from Henry at Stark at 4pm! Hoping to hear good news from more of you. :)

Were you in HK or LA when you received the call?

So, Is it right to assume that everyone offered a spot at Peter Stark will take it and decline the other offers? Congrats to all who got the call today!

Congrats to everyone who got in. I got a call today and I'm still trying to get over the shock.

Mrpels- Getting into Stark is an amazing opportunity, I can't see why anyone would turn it down. BUT at the same time, it's all about the program that's right for you, right? Personally, I only applied to USC. I realized that it was the program for me and couldn't bring myself to spend the time and money on other applications.

I got the call in LA, 4pm PST. :)

i don't know what to think... I haven't heard anything from Stark, no rejection, no acceptance (it seems stupid to keep waiting for this...) Maybe it means I'm waitlisted? Anyway, it looks like being waitlisted is the same as being rejected, I don't think anyone will decline Stark.
