Professional consulting for the 2025-2026 application cycle

I help applicants navigate the film school admissions process. Whether you’re just getting started or refining your materials, I can guide you in building a strong, standout application. I’ve helped people get into top programs (USC, NYU, Chapman, and the below) — even those without prior film experience.

Admissions committees want to see that you can tell engaging stories, both in your creative work and your application. Every element — your statement, scripts, films, grades, and references — should connect and reinforce your voice as a storyteller.

I was accepted to AFI, Columbia, and ArtCenter College of Design by focusing on my strengths and improving weaker areas. I know what top programs look for and have friends on the admissions committees too!

Hi Zeno!

My daughter is applying this Fall to film schools and up to ears in essays and applications. Can you please send me information on your services?

Thanks so much!

I hear you — it can definitely feel overwhelming at first blush. I just sent you a direct message here on FilmSchool.org; hopefully, it came through!

I'm happy to help demystify it all and see if we can find a way to work together. :)

Admissions want to see that you can tell engaging stories, both in your work and your application. Everything should align—your statement, scripts, films, grades, and references.

Hey all! Just wanted to talk a little bit about how Zeno helped me improve my storytelling skills in a way I didn't even imagine it was possible! From the first conversations, he showed me different aspects of my work that could improve and how we would do this together. I had already applied to NYU in 2022 on my own and didn't get in; Zeno approached my old application and helped me understand some sides of it that were probably the reason why I didn't get accepted in first place. For the 2025 cycle (Fall transfer), we came up with a well-rounded, strong and authentic application. Every essay reflected more and more of my personality and the way Zeno encouraged me to look for stories was profoundly inspiring. His feedbacks were always direct and precise. He is the best cheerleader you are ever going to have -- but he also knows how to approach you and be honest when he feels you are repeating mistakes. In the end, I got into NYU, my dream school, and I also got an interview at USC -- the two most competitive film schools for undergraduates. I am beyond grateful for all his support and encouragement. You won't regret hiring Zeno's services! If anyone is interested in getting to know more of my process in the application, and specifically, about Zeno's tutoring, feel free to reach out :)

Was my pleasure! And it's great to hear you're flourishing at NYU. I knew that you would. :)

Just wanted to add that if anyone is looking for help with their school application, they should contact Zeno.
I worked with him on my film school applications, and honestly, it changed everything. He doesn’t just edit your essays, he helps you understand what’s missing and how to tell your story in a real, personal way. His feedback is clear, direct, and super helpful.
I found very quickly that he’s not only great with essays but with everything that goes into the application portfolios: prompts, original scripts, and even notes on scholarship answers and your films. He gave me detailed feedback on not just what’s wrong but how to fix everything, and he does this for all of the top film schools.
Zeno knows what top schools like AFI, Columbia, and USC want, and he helps you build an application that actually feels like you. I felt much more confident after working with him. Totally recommend.

With application deadlines coming in December, you can still bring me in on the process so you’re confident and on track. My approach covers all parts of your application, but I can help consult on any piece you're concerned about. In the meantime, there’s some background via my recent Q&A here on the site. DM me, we can chat
Hey Zeno, with November 15th approaching, i might need your help.

Zeno was very diligent and helpful throughout the whole process. He always made the best effort to tend to my application, and devoted a large sum of time into helping shape my materials to be the strongest they possibly could be. One thing I believe to certainly be true, in affirmation with the other reviews you might read about him, is that he will teach you how to write and design story. It’s also, I think, the defining difference between him any other consultant you might be considering as you’re reading this. If you need a top-tier advisor to really boost your chances of getting in to your dream school, consider reaching out to him.

Working with Zeno was truly a joy, I came to him in dire need of help with only a week before the deadline to my top choice schools. He met me with calm and assured guidance, and helped me improve my materials in ways I didn’t think were possible. Zeno will help you craft your materials by excavating the parts of you that make you unique. During that process you will become a better artist because you’ll get to the core of why you want to create art. He’ll also improve your writing and storytelling ability by always pushing you to be more specific and get to the emotional core. I’ve learned so much from my short time with Zeno! His expertise is invaluable, and he is also a great person. Highly recommend!

It’s been a pleasure working with applicants this year — RPA, Kappadinster, and Headinasack among them — and I appreciate the trust and the kind words.

As admissions season reaches its midpoint, there are still meaningful deadlines ahead at programs like Columbia, CalArts, DePaul, Brooklyn College, Syracuse, Emerson, Boston University, the University of Miami, SCAD, RIT, and others.

I’m still available, even last minute, to help your materials shine and go in as competitively as possible.

NEED ADVICE FOR COLUMBIA FILM PROMPT

How much can you alter the film prompts for Columbia's MFA Screenwriting application? I am sticking to the main details (time, location, age, relationships) but I want to change a few small details for my individual story, is that ok???

Mainly does the 2nd individual in the story HAS to be human?

IF SO...

Would you consider the presentation of IT (aka Pennywise the Clown) a person? He looks almost human most of the time and then he changes into something more terrifying. Also, in real life clowns are just humans in make-up... so could I use a something along the idea of a shape-shifter or semi-human?

Columbia film prompts (2-3pgs):

EXT. AMUSEMENT PARK – NIGHT

Alone in the open cabin of a ferris wheel, the Young Woman is frightened to hear the entire ride screech, then slow to a complete stop. Voices from below shout assurances that the problem will be fixed in a few minutes...but things get even worse when she turns to see the person sitting in the cabin hanging opposite her own.

INT. DEPARTMENT STORE – DAY
As the Teenager scans the clothing racks for something to buy, he’s startled to see what looks like someone hastily stuffing merchandise into their backpack. He looks for a salesperson or a security guard - but just then, the person slips away. He follows.
I’d be happy to help. You’re welcome to private message me and we can see together whether working with a professional consultant like me makes sense for you. This thread isn’t the right place to get into these details.

That said, I want to be upfront. Building a prompt off existing IP, like what you’re describing, is generally not the strongest approach for Columbia. They tend to prioritize original voices and a clear, personal vision.

If you’d like to explore this further, feel free to send me a private message.
