TISCH 2011 hopefuls lets nail-bite together! (1 Viewer)

They sent me the "your status is ready" email and from their it was a really nice "we are waitlisting a small amount of people blah blah blah" email. I'm thinking if you make it passed this you are looking pretty good. Don't want to jinx you guys so I'll leave it at good luck. Out of curiosity, what did you guys send in for your writing samples?

RobbieBlock - I got the same thing. I sent one pilot script as my writing sample. What about you?

Munky the robot - Just so you know I'm an international candidate and I was e-mailed a link to my decision this morning.

Is anyone else waiting to hear from the Dramatic Writing course in Singapore?

Well, I am applying to Tisch NYU.

So I am guessing I didn't get in cos y'all have been waitlisted and I haven't heard nothing.
Congrats guys!

I wonder if anyone on this forum got interview calls...

I too sent a pilot. Lydia, did you apply for DW at the Asia or NYC campus?

I agree that it is a good sign to have not heard anything yet. GL

No Munky, I think its a very good sign that you still haven't heard. After waitlists I'm sure the last thing is probably acceptances. I wonder how long the waitlist is.

I sent in a feature I had worked on for about 2 years. I got positive reviews from a lot of people in the industry on it and am in negotiations to sell it so I was a little taken a back that I didn't get in. My 2.4 undergrad GPA may have helped there though.

Robbie! You always make me feel better bout things!:)
i don't think acceptances will be last although if they were they wud definitely make all the nail biting worth it.

Not very confident bout my materials either. I sent this feature that I managed to write in a few weeks. Yes I cringe as I type that. But hey that's pretty impressive Robbie! I ve been lurking in the same forums as u and if I'm not mistaken u got interviews with AFi and Ucla right? Frankly I dont think they should take GPA into consideration! sadly somma them do .

I applied to both New York and Singapore.

I had an interview for Singapore but haven't heard back.

I was waitlisted for New York but was never interviewed.

RobbieBlock - I have no idea what a 2.4 is (we have a different system in England)- I guess from your message that isn't too good! But I doubt they put too much stock in grades. I got a First (that's the highest you can get) and when I applied last year I was rejected. I really think its about the quality of your writing sample - and mine last year clearly blew! Good luck selling your screenplay, that's awesome news.

Munky - good luck, I'm with everyone else: no news is good news.

AHHHHHHH! I'm about to jump out of my skin! Just call me an tell me I'm accepted already!!! LOL!

I assume those of you who were out right rejected or wait listed applied to other schools? If so, GOOD LUCK! I am really hoping for the best for everyone.

Me? I only applied to NYU so, getting that acceptance call would be\(^o^)/!!!!

**DEEP BREATHS**

Schmartmann - What was your spec script for? I've never written one before (they're not the industry standard where I'm from.) Was it easier or harder than writing something completely original?

I spec'd an episode of 30 Rock. Spec script writing is its own set of challenges: it's a bit easier in one sense because the characters and relationships are pre-established, so you don't have to do a lot of the work you do in a pilot. However, you have to work very hard to capture accurately the structure, tone, and pacing of the show, and to come up with situations that the show hasn't touched on yet.

Therefore, I'd say it's no easier or harder than writing a pilot. Then again, this is only the second script I've written (the first was a pilot), so my experience is pretty limited.

But if it's not too much trouble, I may apply to Tisch Singapore just to see what will happen...maybe one day I'll be able to say I got into Tisch :P

Realistically, why did you waste everyone's time & money (even yours) by applying if you aren't going to go anyways. You don't think they can tell when someone doesn't intend to go?

I suggest you don't apply to Singapore if you aren't into it.

Tisch is for people that takes filmmaking and dramatic writing seriously (even if the stories aren't serious). Wanting "to see what happens" is weak. If you aren't serious about it - don't bother applying.

Even if you are of a middle-class background and from Canada, you can still find a way. Countless poorer people from poorer countries have. </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I wrote 60 pages of original script. I worked very hard on my application. I very much intended to go. You know what one of the worst feelings I've ever felt was? When I discovered just how little support there is for international students who want to pursue the fine arts. When I realized about 2 months after the application was due that I couldn't apply to pretty much any financial aid programs and that my life savings that I've been saving up since age 15 would only cover about 8 months of rent (not including food, transportation, and let's not even start on the $50 000 of tuition).

I hope your presumptuous and judgmental post is not reflective of other Tisch students. If it is, I'm thrilled that I got rejected.

hey shrutebucks!
Hang in there buddy.May be next time u can do some better prep for funding before applying. There are not many but yeah.. a few scholarships for international students.I don't mean tisch but the outside scholarships. Just google it. There is a lot of info to be found. You could perhaps try a combo of scholarship + saving + loan

Good Luck :)

I am pretty sure if u believe in urself and are passionate bout what u want, u will manage to get some good funding opportunities. Don't lose hope! Oh n I m a tisch applicant.

I guess you'd just have to do like most international students & domestic students and get some private loans.

Most of us end up with tons of debt, yes, with no real guarantee of jobs or success. Which of course, I've seen none.

But, we've all taken a chance on ourselves.

I'm pretty sure graduate film production interviews end by the end of the week.

I suspect that if you haven't had an interview yet, or have one setup for the next few days, you probably didn't make it.

then again, I've been wrong before.
