TISCH 2011 hopefuls lets nail-bite together!

@Koquard
Thanks, man. Yeah, he's awesome. He was actually a series regular on "The Gates" on ABC last summer. It got canceled though, lol.

Realistically, since I'm from Canada and of a middle class income, I can't go to Tisch (NYC or Asia), or any film school, so I was just applying to see what would happen. But if it's not too much trouble, I may apply to Tisch Singapore just to see what will happen...maybe one day I'll be able to say I got into Tisch :P

Realistically, why did you waste everyone's time & money (even yours) by applying if you aren't going to go anyways. You don't think they can tell when someone doesn't intend to go?

I suggest you don't apply to Singapore if you aren't into it.

Tisch is for people that takes filmmaking and dramatic writing seriously (even if the stories aren't serious). Wanting "to see what happens" is weak. If you aren't serious about it - don't bother applying.

Even if you are of a middle-class background and from Canada, you can still find a way. Countless poorer people from poorer countries have.

First time poster here. I am a DW applicant for Tisch, who apparently made it through the first round of cuts, knock on wood -- very nervous, trying to guess when the next round of rejection letters are set to come in, if there are rounds at all, and when we will hear about acceptances.

@Koquard Do you know if there will be a warning at all about the mini-interview, or will they just call out of the blue? Thank you!

I still haven't heard back either. The closer we get to the 1st of April, the more this feels like a real Sword of Damocles situation.

@wonderpony I too really enjoyed your short film. Comedic short films usually occupy an awkward space between sketch comedy and long-form pieces, but I think you pulled it off!

The person that I spoke with was accepted last year, and he told me they just called him out of the blue, but that the phone call didn't sound as formal as a normal interview does.

I've applied for Directing and still haven't heard a peep. No interview, no rejection. So I don't think that the current situation pertains to just DW applicants.

I'm assuming there'll be another round or two of rejections this week and that I'll be included, but who knows. Anybody have a sense of when acceptances go out?

For what it's worth, I went to one of the information sessions in the fall, and there, they said there'd be no interviews for DW. But maybe that's changed and/or they don't consider the phone-chats you mentioned "interviews."

Yeah. It's definitely more of a "chat" than an interview, but I assume they ask you some pertinent questions and its not just "Hey. Whats up. How's it hangin'" type of stuff.

@Schmartmann

Sword of Damocles! Very apt.

@Koquard

I'd be even more terrified if they were calling to say "Hey" and "How are ya". What a strange social situation that would be.

hey

I just received an email stating that although I had not been accepted into Kanbar, my application was strong enough to be forwarded to Tisch ASIA for consideration. Have to give them an answer by tomorrow. Still contemplating the pros and cons of this.

nirenabhav: i'd think the location would not be good for networking unless you want to work in the market in south east asia, although you will be getting the MFA degree from NYU. Otherwise, i think their equipment and facilities might be better than tisch new york.
I don't want to go because i have an acceptance from CalArts which i'm very interested in, and an interview with UCLA. still don't know which one will i chose from those two if i got in UCLA.
still waiting to hear from other schools too (USC and Columbia)

thanks for the info balawadhi. Im also waiting on my other applications. While the networking might be an issue, its hard for to turn down an opportunity to study the same course I was interested in the first place. Im thinking take it and if anything else turns up from other applications, i'll have some options to weigh. i really dont lose anything.

Hey,

also got the "forwarded to tisch asia" message.

My question is more one of social/communication policy - shall I write them an email and explain "thanks but I don't want to..." or just let it pass?

Looking back at last year's DW post, it looks like people started getting these phantom calls this week.

I haven't heard anything yet either. Not even a Tisch Asia email.
